Designed first as an SUV (unlike its competitors which are all pickup truck-based), it has the longest wheelbase (2,855mm) and widest body (1,950mm) in its class making for an extremely roomy cabin and plush ride. Powered by a 2.2-liter diesel motor, the Rexton puts out 181hp and 420Nm mated to a seven-speed automatic. It’s also available as a 4×2 or 4×4 variant.
Meanwhile, the Musso Grand is SsangYong’s answer for buyers who want their pickup truck to do more. Completing the Musso range, the Musso Grand gains 310mm of extra length, making it the longest one-ton pickup truck in the market today (5,405mm). The extra length is all concentrated at the bed where it can it can accommodate 1,434 liters of cargo.
The Musso’s coil spring rear suspension is replaced with traditional leaf springs on the Musso Grand. This pushes up the payload capacity to 1,025 kgs from the Musso’s 850 kgs. And with this move, SsangYong is the first manufacturer in the country to offer two rear suspension setups depending on the pickup truck the buyer will choose.
Like the short wheelbase Musso, the Musso Grand is powered by the 2.2-liter e-XDI engine making 181hp and 420Nm. This engine can be mated to a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic as well as 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains.

Mazda6
The Mazda6 has earned its reputation as the enthusiast’s choice in the executive car segment. Today, it has cemented that by not only offering a choice between two body styles — a sedan and a wagon, but a choice between a torquey diesel and for the first time ever, a powerful turbocharged gasoline engine.
Joining the 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D variant, the 2019 Mazda6 sedan is now available with a turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine. With Dynamic Pressure Turbo technology, it produces 231hp and 420Nm using regular unleaded fuel. After a lengthy pre-selling that started in February, the limited-edition Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition has finally arrived in the Philippines. And as a pleasant surprise, Bermaz Auto Philippines announced that they have managed to increase their allocation from 20 to 30 units. This year, Foton Philippines is adding more power and features to the Gratour MiniVan making it better equipped to handle business, pleasure, and whatever else life throws at it.
From a 1.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, the 2019 Foton Gratour MiniVan ups that to a 1.5-liter four-cylinder motor. The DAM 15 DR engine produces 114hp and 150Nm. Mated to a five-speed manual driving the front wheels, it produces a more comfortable, capable drive. Even better, a new electric power steering system reduces parasitic power loss and improves overall stability. Along with the added power, the 2019 Gratour MiniVan also comes with added safety thanks to standard ABS with EBD.
The Gratour MiniVan’s practical nature continues with its dual sliding doors for easy ingress. Inside, it has a standard 8-seater seating capacity (2+3+3 seating). And despite a carryover wheelbase (2,710mm), larger body dimensions mean more room. Furthermore, it has improved flexibility with its foldable third row.
Mercedes-Benz B-Class
The all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz B-Class arrives, offering practicality, versatility, and safety while still offering a sportier identity first shown in the A-Class in 2018. With an exciting and progressive new design, the new B-Class has redefined its relaxed and practical look with a sportier profile without sacrificing space or versatility. Nissan Navara Black Edition
As its name suggests, the Navara Black Edition ditches all of the chrome exterior accents for high-gloss black ones — everything from the V-motion grille, door handles, fog lamp surrounds, rear bumper, and window moldings have been painted to match Batman’s suit. They’ve also given it smoked LED projector headlights with LED daytime running lights.
Inside, the Navara Black Edition gets an eight-way power driver’s seat, leather and sport fabric combination seats (with orange stitching, naturally). And, just like the standard EL and VL variants, it gets Nissan’s Around View Monitor that gives a bird’s eye view around the vehicle when parking.
Mazda3
Less than six months after its global unveil at the LA Auto Show, Bermaz Auto Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles in the country, presented the all-new 2019 Mazda3. Marking a new era for the Japanese automaker, the all-new Mazda3 is the embodiment of Mazda’s upmarket push.
The first vehicle to show off Mazda’s new styling direction, the 2019 Mazda3 pushes the design of its four-door sedan and five-door hatchback (coincidentally making its ASEAN debut) to two different directions with the former being more mature and the latter, sportier. Regardless, designers opted to trim unnecessary elements, focusing instead on the interplay of light and shadow—a hallmark of the Evolved KODO Design.
Inside, the new Mazda3 continues with the same less-is-more approach. The cabin is laid out in perfect horizontal symmetry with the driver at the center. In addition, elements like the air vents have been cleverly integrated to the follow the line of the instrument panel. Aiming to be a standard bearer in the compact class in terms of fit and finish, the Mazda3 employs clever new material pieces including a laser-engraved material on the shifter panel.
Underpinning the 2019 Mazda is the new Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture. Not only does this afford a more polished driving experience, it also provides a more refined ride and dramatically reduced levels of NVH. Tire choices remain 205/60R16 and 215/45R18 depending on the variant.
As for the drivetrain, the all-new Mazda debuts with an improved Skyactiv-G family. For the entry-level models, it gets a 1.5-liter DOHC Skyactiv-G engine making 111hp and 146Nm; the higher-trim models get a 2.0-liter DOHC Skyactiv-G engine making 154hp rpm and 200Nm.
Mercedes-Benz GLE
The spiritual successor of the M-Class, the 2019 GLE exudes presence and power, while also heightening comfort and spaciousness inside. For 2019, the GLE has a muscular and athletic profile complete with standard 21-inch wheels. Up front, the SUV features the new Multibeam LED with Ultra Range that ensures driving visibility through any weather condition. Meanwhile, the rear lights are also divided into two sections, which not only give an impression of width but also create an unmistakable night design with illuminated blocks typical of Mercedes-Benz SUVs, in this case with backlit edge lighting. The rear is strikingly rounded off with the chrome-plated under guard.
Inside, the new GLE brings the luxurious, elegant ambiance of Mercedes-Benz sedans into the SUV space. Its redesigned cockpit is sportier, made innovative and technical by its 64-colored premium ambient lighting. From its debut in the A-Class, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) now makes it presence felt in the SUV line-up.
For the Philippine market, the GLE is solely available in GLE 300d 4MATIC guise. With that, it gets a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine with 245hp and 500Nm. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic routing power through all four wheels via Mercedes-Benz’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. And in a first for Mercedes-Benz in the Philippines, the new GLE is equipped with EQ Boost, a mild hybrid feature wherein energy recovered from braking and systematic engine shut offs delivers a boost of energy when needed or when eliminating turbo lag.

The Everest Titanium+ 4×4 AT also benefits from 4WD Terrain Management System that maximizes its surefootedness regardless of terrain, ensuring full capability on- and off-road.
Along with the new engine, the 2020 Everest now has smart keyless entry and push-button start/stop across the line-up as well as a hands-free power tailgate that can open and close the hatch with a simple kicking motion of the foot under the rear bumper. On the top-trim Everest Titanium+ 4×4, it receives Active Park Assist that automatically steers the vehicle into a parking space and a panoramic sunroof.
Along with the new drivetrain, added driver-assist technologies, and convenience features, the 2020 Everest also benefits from a slight refresh thanks to a new grille, new 20-inch split-spoke alloy wheels, and a pure black (ebony) interior color.

The new screen measures seven inches and features HD graphics. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also come as standard. Ambient interior lighting completes the additions.
These new features build upon the Q2’s youthful looks that feature Audi’s signature Singleframe grille, and now LED headlights with daytime running lights. Fifteen-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels complete the progressive design.
Toyota Hiace Super Grandia
As the top-variant of the sixth-generation Hiace which was launched last February, the 2020 Toyota Hiace Super Grandia is all about comfort and luxury. Based on the “low roof” GL Grandia, the Hiace Super Grandia gets a classier-looking front-end with a unique grille and bumper design. The same goes for the back where the extended garnish visually widens the stance. Front and back, LED lighting is standard even down to the front fog lights.
With dual sliding doors (powered on the highest trim Super Grandia Elite), ingress and egress is made easier. Inside, it exchanges the premium economy 12-seater bench seating for a more luxurious business class 9-seater setup which includes two rows of Captain’s Chairs. Leather is standard on all but the base Super Grandia, with the Elite upping the experience with quilted leather with ottomans.
Mechanically, the Super Grandia shares the 1GD-FTV 2.8-liter engine found in the rest of the Hiace range. As such, it gets 176hp and 450Nm. The sole transmission option is a six-speed automatic. Interestingly, Toyota has also swapped the rear leaf springs for a four-link coil spring setup improving its ride and handling.
Mitsubishi L300 Euro 4
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is about to mark the comeback of one of its most beloved icons: the L300. Discontinued last year due to the country’s shift to Euro 4 emission regulations, the L300 is back, this time sporting a cleaner, more powerful engine, and sadly a hefty price jump.
In order to comply with the new emissions standards, the Japanese carmaker has successfully shoehorned the 2.2-liter 4N14, an engine also used in the ASX, Eclipse Cross, Delica, and Outlander. In this guise, it makes 99hp and 200Nm. The sole transmission is a five-speed manual.
Along with the new engine, Mitsubishi has increased the cab height of the L300 by 100mm for improved visibility. Ground clearance remains the same at 195mm.
Mazda CX-3
Mazda is reducing its CX-3 line-up from three to one variant this 2020. Aesthetically, the changes are quite subtle, limited only to the new horizontal grille slats — similar to what you see in the CX-9 and the rear lamps which get a new cylindrical detail. Being the Pro 2WD model, it gets only halogen headlights and 16-inch alloy wheels. LED fog lights are standard, though.
Like the exterior, the CX-3’s interior sees only minor tweaks for 2020. For the first time ever, the Mazda’s smallest crossover gets a front arm rest that doubles as lidded storage and a rear center armrest with cup holders. The mechanical parking brake has also been swapped for an electric parking brake with auto brake hold. The seats are covered in fabric and the air conditioning’s manual. However, you do get a leather steering wheel, a seven-inch MZD Connect infotainment (no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto), and push-start/stop for the engine.
Mechanically though, the 2020 CX-3 does see a power bump compared to its predecessor. Its 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine is now rated at 150hp and 195Nm. The transmission remains a six-speed automatic, but now come with paddle shifters.
Isuzu D-Max LS-A
Sixteen years after its nameplate was introduced into the market, Isuzu Philippines Corporation launches the most modern, most stylish iteration of the D-Max yet: the 2020 LS-A.
Designed to capture pickup truck buyers who see them more as lifestyle vehicles than workhorses, the 2020 D-Max LS-A comes with key features first found on the D-Max Boondock Edition. The 2020 D-Max LS-A continues to be powered by Isuzu’s 4JJ1-TCX 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 177hp and 380Nm. Initially available in 4×4 guise, they will soon offer a 4×2 guise of the LS-A as well. Both variants though are offered with a choice between a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic.
Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 2WD Mid
Aimed to steal sales from pickup-based passenger vehicles, Hyundai has released a more affordable variant of the Santa Fe — the GLS 2WD Mid. Priced P380,000 lower than the loaded GLS 2WD High trim, it ditches the LED headlights for halogen ones and the LED taillights for bulbs. It also loses chrome on the front grille and the rear spoiler as well. Even the wheels have gone down an inch from 19s to 18s. Inside, the GLS Mid keeps the leather seats and even the power driver’s seat, but removes the side sun curtains, heads-up display, wireless charger, and rain-sensing wipers. Even the audio system is now down to a five-inch display and loses Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In terms of safety, the GLS Mid nets you dual SRS airbags (down from 6), and ditches the electronic parking brake for a traditional foot brake one. And while ABS with EBD is standard, the stability control system’s gone. The 360-degree camera is also MIA as are front corner sensors.
The good news is that it keeps the 2.2-liter CRDi engine as the top trim variant. It makes the same 200hp/441Nm output mated to the same eight-speed automatic. It even keeps the cruise control function as well.
September 2019
Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class
After the introduction of the A-Class and B-Class, Mercedes-Benz completes the trifecta by introducing the new CLA four-door coupe. With just one variant, it costs P700,000 more than its similarly-engined A-Class sibling.

Continuing to be a style icon for Mercedes-Benz, the 2020 CLA keeps its predecessor’s frameless doors. Upfront, it comes with LED headlights with DRLs, complementing the low-slung hood and diamond grille. The new narrow-designed tail lamps and number plate housed in the bumper emphasize the width of the new CLA, while 18-inch light alloy wheels shower it with sportiness.

Thanks to a built-in motor, it slides out and can be lowered down to street level making it easier for the elderly or wheelchair-bound people to take their seat or disembark. And in a clever move that will please high-tech owners, the swivel-lifting seat is programmable either via a remote control or even through a mobile phone app. It even has a position memory function, path recover function, path obstacle sensor, door interlock, low-power detection and warning, mechanical manual function, and anti-tip protection.

Apart from using the BMA platform, Geely is upping the safety game with standard ABS with EBD, traction control, stability control, and hill descent control on all variants.
Targeted towards millennials and young buyers, the Coolray uses lines and angles to distinguish itself from other small SUVs in the market. Based on the concept of “Racing through Space and Time,” it is confident, athletic, and bold. Seventeen-inch wheels are standard on the base Comfort model, while moving to the mid-tier Premium and top-tier Sport variants ups it to 18 inches. The Sport model also has a black roof fitted with a panoramic sunroof and various carbon fiber accents.
Inside, the Coolray uses a seven-inch LED display panel embedded in its instrument cluster that switches layout based on the selected driving mode — Normal, Eco, and Sport. For its infotainment system, it uses a 10.25-inch multimedia touch screen with QD Link Android connectivity. The Sport trim adds the G-Pilot system which includes Auto Park Assist that slots the car into parallel and perpendicular parking spots with the touch of a button, Blind Spot Detection, and even a 360-degree parking camera. Other features on the Sport include tire pressure monitoring system and a remote start feature.
Suzuki Dzire GA
Suzuki launched a new variant of its Dzire subcompact sedan, targeted for fleet owners: the Dzire GA. The Dzire’s manageable proportions, surprisingly large interior room, and low cost of maintenance make it the ideal platform for taxis and ride-sharing applications. The Suzuki Dzire GA is powered by a 1.2-liter K12M engine making 82hp and 115Nm. A five-speed manual is the sole transmission option.
Suzuki Carry
Catering to the needs of commercial businesses located specifically in tight city confines, Suzuki Philippines launches the all-new Carry. Dropping “Super” in its name, the Suzuki Carry now comes with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine delivering 96hp and 135Nm. The 2020 Carry features a wider and longer body with a bed that’s 365mm longer and 75mm wider than its predecessor. It comes standard with 22-rope hooks to secure any cargo during transit. Furthermore, its loading capacity of 940 kgs is higher than before.
Isuzu mu-X Boondock Edition
Five years — that’s how long the Isuzu mu-X’s been on the Philippine market, and yet, Isuzu Philippines Corporation has managed to keep it fresh with a continuous slew of updates here and there. Their most special one to date though is the commemorative limited edition mu-X Boondock.
As expected, the mu-X Boondock closely mirrors the upgrades found in the D-Max Boondock from the beefy Yokohama Geolander all-terrain 265/70R17 tires to the monotube nitrogen-filled “performance” shock absorbers, steel side step boards, and Boondock branding. Unlike the D-Max Boondock though, the mu-X Boondock gets cross rails for the roof, nicks its fender extensions from the mu-X Luxe Edition, and gets a front chin spoiler.
The larger tires and new shock absorbers raise the mu-X’s ground clearance, approximating the D-Max Boondock’s impressive 247mm number. Water wading depth is also sure to cross the 800mm mark as well.

Mitsubishi Montero Sport
The refreshed 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is finally in the Philippines. Upfront is the latest iteration of Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield grille. It’s more pronounced and angular than before and with a higher hood, better emphasizes the width. The headlights retain their traditional positioning, but feature new lighting elements. The front fog lamps and signal lamps are the ones that migrate from the trailing edge to the middle of the bumper, akin to the Strada. At the back, the divisive “red tear” LED taillights have been retained, but have been re-shaped, cut, and given a smoked hue to visually improve the flow. A more aggressive-looking rear spoiler, reworked license plate garnish, and new designs for the 18-inch alloy wheels complete the changes.
At first glance, the 2020 Montero Sport looks to remain largely unchanged. However, it’s managed to embrace its futuristic styling by employing an 8-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster. Replacing the traditional gauges, this multi-function display not only adds a strong high-tech vibe, but puts the Montero Sport as the first in its class to offer such a feature.
Apart from this, it offers an eight-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Car Play and for that, it necessitated a re-do of the center console, including new climate control buttons. It also has an 8-way power adjustable driver seat, new soft-padded interior door trim, an AC outlet integrated in the second row, and a power tailgate. Finally, the Montero Sport receives the Mitsubishi Remote Control. Using a smartphone app, this will enable the vehicle to send notifications to the owner’s phone and can open and lock the car and tailgate for as long as the mobile phone is within Bluetooth range.
Peugeot 3008
There’s an air of confidence at Peugeot and that has to do with the introduction of its new 3008 line-up. Admittedly, it doesn’t look all that different from the 3008 Active variant. What’s greatly different though is the price. For the first time ever, the 3008 compact SUV is priced squarely within the CR-V/CX-5/Forester range.
The secret to Peugeot’s more affordable pricing is a change of source from Europe to Malaysia. A joint-venture between Peugeot’s parent company, PSA and Malaysia’s Naza Corporation, the plant now serves several ASEAN markets including the Philippines. Thanks to zero tariff, the Peugeot 3008 is now more affordable. And despite being less of a dent to the pocket, the Malaysian-made 3008 Active now packs more features than the European 3008 Active.
GAC GS3
Legado Motors Inc., the exclusive distributor of GAC Motor in the Philippines launched the latest addition to its line-up: the GS3 subcompact crossover. Well-received in markets where GAC is sold around the world, the GS3 is considered by many as a “game-changer” SUV thanks to specifications and features that surpass those in its price range.
Both the exterior and interior styling of the GS3 aim to create a premium riding experience by combining classic chrome elements with a strong, wedge-like styling. The interior features either premium fabric or leather, and boasts of an infotainment system with an 8-inch TFT color display with hands-free Bluetooth.
It comes with either a 1.5-liter normally-aspirated engine with 113hp and 150Nm or a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine with 136hp and 202Nm. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic.
Suzuki Vitara
Suzuki Philippines’s strong seller, the subcompact crossover Vitara gets a styling refresh for the 2020 model year. For 2020, it gets a new expressive design and a revamped interior without a huge price jump.
Outside, the Vitara receives a new vertical chrome grille along with chrome front bumper garnishes which help it exude a stronger off-road feel. It also gets wider looking rear combination lamps with the reverse lamp moving to the lower bumper. The top-trim GLX model also adds LED headlights with a colored projector cover and a new design for the 17-inch alloy wheels as well.
Inside, the 2020 Vitara receives a new soft pad instrument panel along with a revised instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch colored LCD display. All models also get a center arm rest console while the GLX model receives a geometric design for its leather seats for a sportier feel and a 10-inch infotainment system (the lower models have an eight-inch system).
Mazda CX-5
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 Skyactiv-G lineup features enhancements in its suspension designed to deliver an even more supple ride. Meanwhile, interior design elements that elevate the premium feel of the cabin towards the brand’s next generation direction were likewise introduced for the 2020 model year.
Like the 2.5-liter AWD Sport variant, the 2.0-liter FWD Sport also features a new seven-inch TFT reconfigurable instrument cluster display to provide needed vehicle information as preferred by the driver. Also new for 2020 are the updated air conditioning system controls that are now similar to the latest Mazda6 and all-new Mazda3’s layout. The Mazda Connect infotainment system now comes with Apple Car Play and Android Auto smartphone mirroring across the 2020 Skyactiv-G range while the 2.0-liter FWD Sport now also features a 10-speaker Bose Premium Sound System, similar to what is standard in the AWD Sport gas and diesel variants.
New black leather seats with orange trim in the AWD and FWD Sport enhance the dynamic luxury feel of both variants. Now also featuring a memory function, the FWD Sport is at par with its i-Activ All-Wheel Drive-equipped sibling in terms of convenience features. And for the first time in a 2.0-liter Mazda CX-5, the power tailgate now comes standard with the FWD Sport.

Peugeot 5008
After bringing in a more affordable version of its five-seater 3008 SUV, Peugeot Philippines is now doing the same for its seven-seater SUV, the 5008. Now sourced from a Peugeot joint-venture plant in Malaysia, the 2020 5008 SUV basically costs a million pesos less than before.
With prices that start at P2.190 million, the Malaysian-sourced 5008 swaps its turbo diesel BlueHDi engine for a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. In this guise, it makes a healthy 165hp and 240Nm. The transmission is a six-speed automatic driving the front wheels.
Toyota Vios XLE
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) brings the total number of Vios variants to eleven with the introduction of the Vios XLE. Slotting in-between the XE and E models, the XLE is designed to be a good value for money variant that offers the best possible Vios specs given its affordable price. It comes with three airbags (driver, front passenger, and driver knee), four-beam halogen headlights, 15-inch alloy wheels, and a seven-inch touchscreen display audio with WebLink smartphone connectivity. It also comes with full power amenities and Vehicle Stability Control with Hill Start Assist is standard.
Kia Seltos
Kia Philippines unboxes its entry into the sub-compact crossover category, the Seltos. Named after “Celtos,” the son of Hercules in Greek mythology, the Seltos slots below the Sportage and for that it starts at just P1.098 million.
It gets a wide tiger nose grille (so wide Kia now terms it, “tiger face”) and a diamond-like pattern on the grille surround. LED daytime running lights and position lights are standard across all variants, but only the top-line SX receives LED headlights and LED front fog lights. At the back, all but the base LX receives LED taillights. At each corner are standard 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/55R17 tires.
The Seltos also boasts of a roomy cabin. The rear occupants enjoy reclining rear seats. With the seats up, it gets the largest cargo room in its class — 498 liters. In terms of creature comfort features, an eight-inch touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard. Music is routed through a 6-speaker system, too. All but the base LX gets cruise control, but only the SX gets automatic climate control and a smart entry with push-start system.
All Seltos variants get a normally aspirated 2.0-liter engine with 149hp and 179Nm. This engine is mated to an Intelligent continuously Variable Transmission (IVT) which is basically a CVT with pre-determined shift points to mimic a conventional torque converter automatic. A changeable drive mode selector is standard.
Honda City 1.5 S
Honda Cars Philippines is about to warp your sense of reality by introducing a new variant of its City subcompact sedan, and get this: it’s an automatic variant that sells less than its manual transmission counterpart.
Officially named the City 1.5 S CVT, the retail price is less than the 1.5 E M/T’s. Yet, it continues to offer best-in-class performance with its 1.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC engine making 120hp and 145Nm of torque. And of course, since it comes with the Earth Dreams CVT, expect it to have excellent fuel efficiency as well. More than just the impressive powertrain, the City 1.5 S CVT offers one of the best value for money proposition with standard LED DRLs, 15-inch wheels (steelies with full covers), tilt/telescopic steering wheel, all power amenities, and keyless entry. In fact, the only things you lose compared to the next tier 1.5 E are front fog lights, the fancier radio, and speakers (the 1.5 S gets a 1-DIN audio system with Aux/USB inputs and 2 speakers).
Audi Q3
The all-new 2020 Audi Q3 officially landed, bringing with it a fresh new take to SUVs. While most SUVs are specific with its target market and usage, the Q3 is a breath of fresh air, as it was designed to cater to every kind of driver, for every kind of need. Tagged as “the all-around SUV,” the all-new Q3 easily fuses spaciousness, versatility, and technology.
From the get-go, the Audi Q3 is decidedly the grown-up version of its predecessor. Grown-up, in the sense that not only does it carry features like the Audi Virtual Cockpit and a 10.1 MMI touch display, it has also expanded its market to catering to the trendier crowd. With fashion being more versatile in recent years, the move to making the Q3’s design sportier, with rigid surfaces, and sharper edges, makes it appealing to the up-and-coming individual.
The new Q3 is powered by a 1.4-L inline-four turbocharged engine delivering 150hp and 250Nm. The engine is mated to a seven-speed, S tronic dual-clutch transmission. The combinations allows it to accelerate from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in just 8.7 seconds. Safety features include electronic stability control, electromechanical power steering, hold assist, hill descent control, and park assist with a rear-view camera.
Mercedes-Benz V-Class
In 2014 the Mercedes-Benz V-Class celebrated its debut with a completely new approach to design, value appeal, comfort, and safety in the MPV segment. The new V-Class has a broader appearance and an even stronger visual presence thanks to its new front end. This comes courtesy of a new bumper design with striking cooling air inlets and a new diamond structure in the radiator grille. At the same time, four new light-alloy wheel designs ensure a striking, avantgarde appearance.
The interior of the new V-Class follows the trend of modernity and clarity. The new V-Class presents itself with new air vents in a more sporty turbine look as well as new dials in the instrument cluster. Modern and elegant can also be used to describe the new trim element in twin-stripe look which is used on the instrument panel and side paneling. The trim elements in the piano lacquer, ebony wood, carbon fiber and brushed aluminium looks remain. And as with the previous model, the first-row passenger seats can be configured to face backwards, allowing for convenient and shared use of the folding tables to hold meetings or have meals with other passengers seated on the second-row.
Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class
Designed to look sleeker with its clean lines and sporty proportions, the 2020 GLC is an instant head-turner. The new GLC carries the iconic Mercedes-Benz SUV design which showcases a muscular and athletic profile with its striking radiator grille, elegant chrome elements, and the redesigned and functional multibeam LED headlamps. Inside the new GLC, the sportiness, spaciousness, and luxury continue with high-grade materials, precise finishing and flowing contours. The new-generation multi-function steering wheel with touch controls improves the driving and maneuvering experience. The GLC steps up in bringing an all-digital instrument display with a 12.3-inch large screen that delivers a pin-sharp picture clarity that is also easy to read under any lighting condition.
Volvo XC60 T8 Twin Engine
In line with Volvo Cars’ goal of reducing its emissions by 50 percent in terms of global sales, Volvo Cars Philippines expands its T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid offering to now include the XC60, S90, and XC90.
Volvo’s Plug-in Hybrid cars deliver a no-compromise combination of plug-in battery electric power and an efficient petrol engine that provides low to zero tailpipe emissions. The additional electric motor supports the combustion engine for low carbon dioxide emissions, and when driven in Pure electric mode, it can allow people to commute with zero tailpipe emissions.
The Twin Engine family of vehicles also carry a high-voltage traction battery to store energy. It receives energy from electric grid charging and also from regenerative braking of the vehicle or from the C-ISG. The high voltage battery delivers power for pure electric drive and also to run the electric air conditioning for pre-climatization of the passenger compartment. The large battery gives an electric-only range of around 40 to 50 kilometers and can easily be charged at home or at a charging station. It’s also charged during driving every time you brake or slow down.
Isuzu Traviz
Isuzu launches a “last-mile” transportation solution with its all-new Traviz light-duty truck. Based on the D-Max platform, the Traviz boasts of durability, big cargo capacity, a fuel-efficient powertrain, and modern design.
Named after a combination of “Transport, Trading, Transcend” and “Business,” the all-new Traviz is available in two wheelbase configurations: the short wheelbase Traviz S and the long wheelbase Traviz L. While both versions have a 1.6-ton payload capacity, the long wheelbase version can readily accept a 10-foot body.
Powering the Traviz is a Euro 4 version of the Crosswind’s engine: the 4JA1. This 2.5-liter common-rail direct-injection engine makes 78hp and 176Nm. Mated to a five-speed manual, the Traviz does up to 23.4 km/L based on a test conducted with the Automobile Association of the Philippines or AAP.
Nissan GT-R
If you’re in the market for a brand-new Nissan GT-R, we have good news: the order books for the Model Year 2020 GT-R are now open. The bad news? The price went up by a whopping P 1.550-million increase (no thanks to the government’s convoluted duty calculations).
What do you get with the price increase? For 2020, the GT-R gets Ray forged wheels wrapped in meaty tires: 255/40R20 for the front and 285/35R20 for the rear. Oh, and at the back, four burnished exhaust tips set the 2020 GT-R apart from previous year models. Outputs from the 3.8-liter VR38DETT engine remain the same: 570 fire-breathing horses and 633Nm of Godzilla torque.
SsangYong Korando
The fourth-generation Korando arrives, gaining the new angular family look. With that, it’s got the “birds wing” front grille, curved shoulder lines that taper towards the rear of the car, and available LED headlights and LED fog lights. Ground clearance ranges from 172 to 182 mm depending on the variant, while at each corner are either 17- or 18-inch wheels.
Inside, the all-new Korando features enriched interior materials combined with cutting-edge design technologies. Available features include the full 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, eight-inch Smart Audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual zone climate control, and leather seats with power movement for the front occupants.
Powering the Korando is either a powerful 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine or a punchy 1.6-liter turbodiesel. This is mated to a third-generation Aisin six-speed automatic with paddle shifters, cruise control, and selectable driving modes. Power is routed through the front wheels.
SsangYong Tivoli
While the Korando has certainly taken the spotlight over at SsangYong, their subcompact crossover, the Tivoli also gets a makeover for 2020. The most notable change? A swapping from gasoline to diesel power.
For 2020, the Tivoli keeps its two-variant line-up, the 1.6 Sport and 1.6 Premium. However, pop the hood and the old gasoline mill is gone. In its place is SsangYong’s e-XDi160 turbo diesel engine making 136hp and 324Nm (same as the Korando). The engine itself is the same one found in the Tivoli XLV, but a new turbocharger bumps the power figures up. The sole transmission option is a six-speed automatic with a Drive Mode selector.
Outside, the most notable one is the revised front with a new grille, headlights, and fog lights. Towards the side, there are more gloss black garnish, while at the back are LED combination lamps. Wheel sizes are either 16 or 18 inches.
Inside, the Tivoli benefits from better materials. The entire center console is new with easier-to-use climate control switches. The top-of-the-line Premium adds leatherette seats, a 10.25-inch full digital gauge cluster, an eight-inch Smart Audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and even an automatic dimming rear view mirror.
Foton Traveller XL
While its trucks are known to be dependable, Foton Philippines has also built a stellar reputation around its formidable passenger van line-up. Case in point is the Traveller XL — their larger than life MPV that seats not 11, not 15, but 19 people. And now, it’s been refreshed with added safety features for the same price.
Thanks to its stretched wheelbase and higher roofline, the Traveller XL can accommodate 19 people in a 3+3+3+3+3+4 layout, most with individual, adjustable headrests. The refreshed cabin now offers a 2-DIN touchscreen audio system with AM/FM tuner, MP3/MP4 video capability, USB, Aux, SD Card, and Bluetooth connectivity. This is on top of the dual air conditioning system with ceiling-mounted vents scattered throughout the body.
Power remains courtesy of a 2.8-liter Cummins CRDi engine putting out 148hp and 325Nm — commendable numbers given you will need to haul up to 4,035kgs. The sole transmission remains a five-speed manual.
The best news for the refreshed Traveller XL though is the added safety equipment. Now equipped as standard are dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and stability control. Moreover, seatbelt minders and a four-probe reverse sensor with parking camera complete the package.
Chery Tiggo 2, Tiggo 5X, Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8
Under new distributor United Asia Automotive Group or UAAGI, Chery Auto is returning to the Philippines not just with one, not just with two, but with four new vehicles — all sporting a body style that’s popular with Filipino buyers: crossovers.
People a certain age will remember that Chery used to have a compact crossover called the Tiggo when they first launched here. Today, Tiggo is Chery’s name for its crossover family, much like Arrizo is the name of their sedan family.
With the timing right to bring Chery Auto back to the Philippines, UAAGI selected four out of six Tiggo family members for the Philippine market; these are the Tiggo 2, Tiggo 5x, Tiggo 7, and Tiggo 8. All of them carry a five-year bumper-to-bumper warranty and an unprecedented 10-year / 1-million-kilometer powertrain warranty.
The line-up starts with the Tiggo 2, their subcompact crossover offering. The Tiggo 2 comes with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 106hp and 135Nm of torque. This engine, named one of China’s Top Best Engines is mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.
Moving up, there’s the Tiggo 5X, yet another subcompact SUV category. This model also comes with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. In this version, it makes 114hp and 141Nm of torque. The Tiggo 5X also comes with a choice between a five-speed manual or a CVT transmission.
Those looking for something bigger may be enticed by the Tiggo 7. Despite its name, the Tiggo 7 is the brand’s flagship 5-seater SUV powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. In this guise, it makes 145hp and 210Nm of torque mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Finally, there’s the flagship Tiggo 8, Chery’s mid-sized seven-seat crossover. It features a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine making 145hp and 210Nm of torque. This engine is also mated to a six-speed dual clutch automatic. Among all the models, Chery has revealed the most detail about the Tiggo 8. It offers a smart keyless entry system, full LCD instrumentation, panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear sensors, and leather seats.
Ford Transit
Ford Philippines is returning into the full-sized van segment with its most spacious, intelligent, capable, and cost-efficient offering yet: the all-new, 15-seater Transit. The new van is not only destined for private family use, but is also designed to compliment and support industries such as education, hotels and resorts, travel and tourism, medical, business process outsourcing, corporate, and even retail. With that, it promises optimized performance, enhanced comfort, and one of the lowest costs of ownership in its class.
The Transit comes with a bold, yet distinctive design featuring the trademark Ford three-bar grille, halogen reflector headlights with daytime running lights, fog lamps, steel wheels with hub caps, black bumpers and side moldings, and a rear bumper with integrated step.
Powered by Ford’s proven 2.2-liter Duratorq engine — the same engine family found in the Ranger XLT, the Transit offers 135hp and 385Nm. This work-ready engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels ensuring a balanced and fuel-efficient performance.
Measuring in at 5,981mm long, 2,474mm wide, and 2,517mm tall, the all-new Transit offers great space made possible by its generous size. The capacious interior features a 15-seat capacity — with everyone enjoying their own individual headrests and three-point seatbelts, 21 storage bins, 12 cup holders, and multiple power sockets.
Mazda CX-30
Meant as an in-between to the CX-3 and the CX-5, the CX-30 is the second seventh-generation model after the all-new 2020 Mazda3. Adopting the Evolved KODO design, the CX-30 is bold and sleek, combining the flowing lines of a coupe with the bold proportions of an SUV. Inside, the CX-30 takes the same minimalist approach seen in the Mazda3. Here, designers focused on giving the driver a cockpit-like feel, while also giving a clean, airy space for the passengers.
Mechanically, the CX-30 shares its underpinnings with the all-new Mazda3. With that, it comes as no surprise that it uses the same powertrain: a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G making 155hp and 200Nm. A six-speed automatic with sport mode is standard across the line-up, but only the high-trim model gets the added security of all-wheel drive.
Mazda CX-8
Slotting in-between the CX-5 and CX-9 in terms of size, the CX-8 is Mazda’s newest three-row SUV. Unlike its competition, Mazda is offering two distinct seating configurations — a family-oriented seven-seater version or a more luxury-oriented six-seater one. The former is exclusively available in front-wheel drive, while the latter is exclusively in all-wheel drive trim.
Regardless of seating configuration, the CX-8 is powered by a normally-aspirated 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine mated to a 6-speed automatic. Making 190hp and 252Nm, this powertrain separates the CX-8 from its larger CX-9 sibling, while still offering spirited, yet efficient performance that Mazda is known for.
Feature-wise, almost nothing separates these two variants. Both come with light-sensing adaptive LED headlights, 19-inch wheels, power tailgate, and rain-sensing wipers. Inside, both the FWD and AWD variants offer standard Nappa leather seats in a Deep Red color, power adjustment for the front occupants (10-way with memory for the driver, six-way for the passenger), tri-zone automatic climate control, windshield-projected heads-up display, power sunroof, and an eight-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system with a 10-speaker Bose sound system.
December 2019
Land Rover Discovery Sport
The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport has arrived, bringing with it the newest aesthetic and comfort features found in the Jaguar Land Rover family. Traditional Land Rover design cues such as the clamshell hood, rising beltline and tapered roof remain, but incorporates the newest familial details including the new grille, bumpers, and LED lamps on both ends. Also standard are larger, 20-inch rims shod with 235/50R20 tires. Inside, the refreshed Discovery Sport adds more premium materials as well as the latest digital Touch Pro infotainment system. Things are capped off by the newly designed seats that provide better comfort and versatility through a second-row that folds and slides in a 60/40 split.
For 2020, the Discovery Sport is offered in an all-diesel line-up. All models come powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium-series engine making 150hp and 380Nm. A nine-speed automatic and a Driveline Disconnect feature in its AWD system (a power transfer unit at the front axle that disconnects drive to the rear wheels under steady state cruising) maximizes fuel efficiency.
Mazda2
Coming as a big surprise to wrap up 2019, Bermaz Auto Philippines, the official distributor of Mazda vehicles in the country, has finally brought in the refreshed subcompact Mazda2. It features the Evolved KODO styling along with a slew of enhancements for improved comfort and handling.
Despite its positioning as Mazda’s most affordable offering, the 2020 Mazda2 doesn’t scrimp on design or craftsmanship. In fact, just as the Mazda3 and Mazda6 has done in the compact and executive car segments, the refreshed Mazda2 brings a heightened sense of premium, typically absent in the subcompact car category.
Under the hood remains the 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine. With the same improvements found in in the Mazda3, it gains a bit more power and torque — 110hp (up 2hp) and 141Nm (up 2Nm). The sole transmission for 2020 is a six-speed automatic with Sports Mode and paddle shifters.
But while its powertrain is relatively unchanged, the Mazda2 features a retuned suspension for a smoother, more comfortable ride. It also adds several noise-fighting measures to realize a quieter cabin and gains G-Vectoring Control Plus.
