Hot off the heels of the Civic Hybrid’s arrival last year, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) is dead set in bolstering its electrified lineup in the Philippines. This time, HCPI turn its attention to its smallest crossover, the Honda HR-V, arriving with a slew of updates for its mid-cycle refresh and Honda’s advanced hybrid powertrain, the e:HEV.
Initially introduced in June 2015, the HR-V has sold over 10,000 units as of 2024. Honda wants to increase that further by offering the option to go hybrid in its latest iteration, along with the latest features found in the contemporary models in HCPI’s lineup.
Advanced Powertrain and Efficiency
The facelifted HR-V features Honda’s state-of-the-art e:HEV hybrid system, designed for optimal fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. The powertrain combines a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle DOHC i-VTEC engine (105 hp, 78 kW) with two electric motors and an E-CVT transmission. The electric drive, with an output of 131 hp (96 kW) and 253 Nm of torque, promises seamless acceleration, maximizing the “EV feel” for most driving situations. Meanwhile, the e:HEV system maximizes the efficiency of the combustion engine during highway runs, reserving the electrified boost on demanding situations.
Honda also claims that the e:HEV system delivers exceptional efficiency, achieving 4.3 L/100 km (23.2 km/L) fuel economy and emitting just 98 g/km of CO2. This eco-friendly setup provides a quiet, smooth ride while catering to customers seeking performance and sustainability. If our experience with the Honda Civic Hybrid is any indication, we’re expecting an economical drive with the new HR-V e:HEV, without losing Honda’s DNA of fun and sporty drive.
Premium Features and Upgraded Design
The HR-V’s exterior now includes a distinctive blue e:HEV badge for the RS variant, emphasizing its hybrid identity, alongside a new Sand Khaki color option and rain-sensing wipers (new for V) for added convenience. The V variant also gets a new set of 18-inch wheels to enhance its understated looks.
Inside, the HR-V boasts a host of new comfort and connectivity features. The RS and V trims include an updated infotainment system, now with wireless charger and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration. The RS variant also introduces power driver seats, red trim accents, dual-zone automatic climate control, and LaneWatch technology for enhanced safety. Other additional features include rear parking sensors, reverse auto-tilt mirrors, and of course, Honda’s signature ULT seats for versatile interior configurations.
Comprehensive Safety with Honda SENSING
Safety is at the forefront of the HR-V’s design, with the inclusion of the Honda SENSING suite. This package offers advanced features such as the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) to help prevent accidents, and the Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to enhance lane discipline. It also includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow for maintaining a safe distance during highway driving, as well as a Road Departure Mitigation System to keep the vehicle securely on the road. Auto High Beam (AHB) technology adjusts headlights automatically for optimal visibility, while the Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN) ensures drivers are alerted when the vehicle in front begins moving.
Enhanced Connectivity with Honda CONNECT
The facelifted HR-V integrates the Honda CONNECT platform, which provides a range of smart features to enhance the driving experience. Drivers can remotely lock or unlock the vehicle and control the climate to pre-condition the interior. The system allows real-time tracking of the vehicle’s location and sets speed alerts to ensure safe driving practices. In the event of emergencies, such as airbag deployment, the system sends notifications promptly. Additionally, it offers trip logging, geofencing capabilities, and emergency assistance, making it a versatile tool for modern connectivity needs.
Pre-sales for the new HR-V commences on January 21, aiming to attract environmentally conscious customers seeking a premium and versatile crossover. HCPI priced the refreshed HR-V lineup between P1.6 million to P1.9 million, with market launch happening in the next few months.
