It was a different kind of driving for the automotive industry last June 23 as The Philippine STAR hosted its inaugural golf invitational tournament at the picturesque Valley Golf and Country Club in Antipolo City.
The event was also the occasion for the unveiling of PhilStar Wheels’ new logo and the relaunch of the wheels.ph website. PhilStar Wheels is the automotive print section of the newspaper while wheels.ph is the digital version.

The event was graced by close to five dozen avid golfers from various automotive distributors and dealers as well as banking executives among other guests. The Philippine STAR was represented by its President and CEO Miguel Belmonte, Executive Vice President Lucien Dy Tioco, and Vice President for Sales & Marketing Jay Sarmiento.

Among the tournament winners were Quintin Valte, who took the Lowest Gross honors with an 80, while Aaron Sorbito earned the Lowest Net with a 69.

Doun Yatco, Romerico Macalintal and Francoise Denyse Fainsan emerged as class champion. Yatco (80-10-70) was the Class A champion with Marc Christian Yu and Willy Tee Ten as runners-up while Macalintal (99-28-71) edged Mikio Tsukui and Dennis Fronda for Class B plum.
