Return to Hybrids: Hyundai’s Bestsellers Electrified

The automotive industry has seen a significant shift towards electrification in recent years, driven by growing environmental concerns and the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions. In line with this, Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) was among the first automotive brands to introduce EVs in the country last year with the IONIQ 5.

But if you’re in the market for hybrid vehicles, HMPH has also introduced a duo of electrified models – the New Tucson Hybrid and All-New Santa Fe Hybrid. By incorporating an electrified setup, these two bestsellers are now more economic than ever, offering the best of both worlds in terms of performance and efficiency.

Not the first Hybrid Hyundais

But first, let’s talk about Hyundai Philippines’ journey into hybrid technology, which began with the introduction of the Hyundai Ioniq in 2018. As the automaker’s first hybrid vehicle locally, the Ioniq was a game-changer, offering a blend of efficiency, performance, and futuristic design. It was praised for its smooth driving experience and cutting-edge technology, making it a standout in the hybrid market.

Fast forward to today, the IONIQ nameplate has been repurposed for Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup, including the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. These models have taken the market by storm, with the IONIQ 5 N even introducing high-performance capabilities into the EV nameplate.

The growing popularity of hybrids in the Philippines has not gone unnoticed by Hyundai Motor Philippines. The decision to reintroduce hybrid vehicles into their lineup reflects the rising demand for electrified models among Filipino car buyers. This move is not just about following a trend but about offering practical and environmentally friendly options that cater to the evolving needs of consumers.

Tucson Hybrid compact Crossover

The new 2025 Tucson Hybrid is significant as it carries an already familiar and iconic nameplate. Now with a refreshed look, this version of the Tucson has an updated radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, and new wheel designs.

One of the standout features of the new Tucson Hybrid is its e-Dynamic Driving and Smart Regenerative Braking systems, which work together to optimize fuel efficiency.

In addition to traditional driving modes like Eco, Smart, and Sport, the Tucson Hybrid introduces the “Baby mode.” This feature activates optimal acceleration to enhance comfort for young passengers on board – a great option to use when on family road trips.

Powered by Hyundai’s Smartstream 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid engine, the Tucson Hybrid boasts an impressive maximum output of 235 hp and 367 Nm of torque – figures quite competitive in its class. The Tucson Hybrid also features a column-mounted Shift by Wire lever, allowing for intuitive and rapid shifting operations while driving.

Safety is a top priority, with the vehicle equipped with Hyundai SmartSense, offering advanced features such as Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping and Following Assist, Side Parking Distance Warning, Smart Cruise Control, and a Surround View Monitor.

Inside, the Tucson Hybrid impresses with a 12.3-inch panoramic curved infotainment display, complete with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Floating Type Console Box, Steering Column-mounted Shift-by-Wire Lever, and Seat Remote Folding System all provide improved storage space and convenience.

The new Tucson Hybrid is available in select Hyundai dealerships for P2,290,000. There are seven colors to choose from: Pine Green, Phantom Black Pearl, White Cream, Shimmering Silver, Amazon Gray, Deep Sea, and Cashmere Bronze.

Santa Fe Hybrid midsize SUV

The all-new Santa Fe has just entered the local scene this year, but Hyundai sees the opportunity for a follow-up and has introduced the Santa Fe Hybrid. This award-winning SUV, particularly with its design, is another great addition to Hyundai’s hybrid lineup.

Powered by the same powertrain setup as the Tucson Hybrid, the Santa Fe Hybrid’s system features e-Dynamic Drive, which includes electric-powered Handling, Traction, Evasive Handling Assist, and Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control. The Smart Regenerative Braking System adjusts the level of energy recovery during deceleration based on driving conditions, further enhancing fuel efficiency.

Inside the Santa Fe Hybrid, luxury and convenience take center stage, just like its gasoline-powered counterpart. The interior has first-row relaxation comfort seats and second-row captain seats with a remote folding function, accessible through the 12.3-inch curved panoramic infotainment display. This display also provides information related to the hybrid system, such as Hybrid battery level, Hybrid Fuel Economy, and Electric Motor Usage.

The Santa Fe Hybrid offers dual wireless smartphone charging ports with built-in cooling fans, a UV-C sterilization tray, and a bi-directional storage console, ensuring passengers enjoy peak convenience, space, and accessibility. Safety features are comprehensive, thanks to Hyundai SmartSense, which includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, All-around Parking Distance Warnings, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, and a Surround View Monitor.

The all-new Santa Fe Hybrid is available in select Hyundai dealerships for P3,330,000. It’s available in six colors: Abyss Black, Creamy White, Magnetic Gray, Earthy Brass, Terracotta Orange, and Ocado Green.

There’s now a Hyundai for every Filipino

Hyundai Motor Philippines’ reintroduction of hybrid models is a clear response to the growing demand for electrified vehicles in the country. These hybrids offer a blend of performance, efficiency, and advanced technology, catering to the diverse needs of modern car buyers.

Even better, these hybrid models complete the automaker’s expansive and diverse lineup. There are now SUVs (Creta, Tucson, and Santa Fe), MPVs (Stargazer, Stargazer X, Custin, and Staria), EVs (IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6), high-performance cars (IONIQ 5 N and Elantra N), and, finally, hybrids (New Tucson Hybrid and All-New Santa Fe Hybrid).

“Whichever stage of life you’re in, there is a Hyundai vehicle that suits your needs, solidifying our purpose to provide a Hyundai for every Filipino,” says HMPH Managing Director, Mr. Cecil Capacete.
