MMDA to implement ‘stop and go’ scheme during SEA Games

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will implement a stop-and-go traffic system on major roads for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019.

According to the MMDA, this will be implemented on EDSA and other major thoroughfares and intersections to give way to the convoy of delegates passing through the area. 

The agency said that among the areas that will be affected by the scheme on the northbound lane of EDSA are Roxas Boulevard, Taft Avenue, Ayala, Buendia, Shaw Boulevard, Megamall area, Santolan, SM North, Munoz, and Balintawak. Meanwhile, traffic flow will also be affected on the southbound lane such as at Balintawak, Munoz, SM North, Cubao, Santolan, Ortigas, Shaw Boulevard, Bonny Serrano, Buendia corner Macapagal, Ayala Magallanes, and Roxas Blvd.

The MMDA said that the convoy of the SEA Games delegates will pass on the yellow lane, flyover and underpass along EDSA.

Additionally, the MMDA warned motorists of the chokepoints during the scheme. These may include Mindanao Avenue-North Ave to NLEX in Quezon City; Roxas Boulevard corner Buendia, Roxas Boulevard corner P. Ocampo, Roxas Boulevard cor P. Burgos, Taft Avenue corner P. Ocampo, Adriatico RMSC Area, Quirino corner Adriatico, sa Maynila; Shaw Boulevard corner Pioneer in Pasig City; N. Domingo-Fil Oil in San Juan City; and Lawton Avenue corner Bayani Road in Taguig City.

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said that around 2,000 personnel will be deployed at various areas to manage the traffic flow during the SEA Games which will happen from November 30 to December 11.

The agency will also deploy personnel from the airport to the hotel to ensure that the convoy of the delegates will not be disrupted by traffic. 

Among the venues of the upcoming sports event are the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Cuneta Astrodome, SM Mall of Asia Arena, SM MOA Skating Rink, World Trade Center, Philippine International Convention Center Forum, SM Megamall, Filoil Flying V Centre, Filinvest City, University of the Philippines Diliman Gym, Marine Corps, Muntinlupa Sports Complex, Starmall EDSA, Makati Coliseum, Manila Hotel tent, SM Megamall Ice Rink, World Trade Center, Philsports Arena, Amoranto Sports Complex, and Manila Polo Club.
