The Ford Ranger gets an update for 2021

Ford Philippines launched over a Zoom media event on Tuesday its updated Ranger for 2021. Featuring a new grille for most of the lineup, the Ranger’s front fascia now features twin intakes on either side of the grille, with a silver touch for the XLT, and a ‘Saber’ orange accent on the Wildtrak.

The WildTrak gets the bulk of the updates which are mainly blacked out trim. This includes new 18-inch alloy wheels, front grille, lower bumper, rear bumper, fog lamp housing, and sports bar with ‘Saber’ accent among others. Its Wildtrak decals also feature a new design on the sides and a 3D version at the rear.

Wildtrak 4×4 buyers can also get an optional Ford original equipment power roller shutter for an additional fee. This comes with a remote key, a pickup bed, power tailgate lock, and is fully automatic with three buttons on the dashboard. Ford says this will be launched by Q2 and final pricing will be revealed by then.

“The new Ranger is set to deliver on its promise of functionality and capability while enabling the diverse needs and lifestyles of our customers,” said Ford Philippines President and Managing Director PK Umashankar.

All variants of the Ranger come with the same engine and transmission as the previous version. That means the XLS, XLT, and FX4 have the 2.2L TDCi engine that puts out 160ps and 385Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual, the 4×2 Wildtrak has the 2.0L Single Turbo with 180ps and 420Nm of torque,, while the 4×4 Wildtrak has the 2.0L Bi-Turbo engine with 213ps and 500Nm of torque.

The lineup also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 800mm water-wading capability, 232mm of ground clearance, 1.3-ton payload capacity and 3.5-ton maximum towing.

Pricing for the 2021 Ranger lineup has increased a bit, now starting at P1,062,000 for the XLS 4×2 MT and goes up to P1,728,000 for the Bi-Turbo Wildtrak 4×4. The Ranger Raptor is unchanged at P1,998,000.
