The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) temporarily suspended the dry run to ban provincial buses along EDSA on Monday.
MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said that the dry run will resume once the policy, which prohibits provincial buses and their terminals along EDSA, has been “ironed out” by the MMDA, the Department of Transportation, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
Garcia said that the agency would not want the policy to be “politicized” in light of the upcoming May 13 midterm elections.
However, despite the suspension, Garcia clarified that provincials buses are still barred from picking up and dropping off passengers along the stretch of EDSA.
The MMDA began the dry run of EDSA bus ban last April 22. Bus drivers who will be caught stopping along Metro Manila’s longest highway to pick up or drop off commuters will be fined P500.
MMDA’s bus ban is part of its target to close all provincial bus terminals along EDSA by June 2019.
