Having strung together Formula 1 world driver’s championship titles four consecutive times, Max Verstappen has undoubtedly secured himself an exalted spot alongside some of motorsport’s greatest names. Only three other drivers have won world championships four years in a row — Juan Manuel Fangio, Sebastian Vettel, and Lewis Hamilton (Michael Schumacher clinched five straight titles, and is tied with Hamilton with seven total championships).
Off the world’s top racetracks though, Verstappen — incidentally also one of the highest-ranked sim racers globally — unsurprisingly tools around town in some awesome supercars. And among his personal collection, apparently his outright favorite is a model that is about as high-performance as his Formula 1 car and supercars are. Only this one is vastly roomier, comfortable, and luxurious. With a huge cargo space to boot.
It is none other than the Audi RS 6 Avant. And in terms of product testimonials, praises do not get any higher than this.
That the RS 6 Avant appeals to Verstappen is not surprising; the car has ample room, not to mention plenty of convenience and safety features, to accommodate his partner, the model and influencer Kelly Piquet, and her daughter. And, of course, Verstappen and Piquet are expecting their first child. The RS 6 Avant will come in handy once this new addition to the family arrives.
Beyond all the luxury, practical, and safety features, the RS 6 Avant is a genuine supercar in understated station wagon clothing.
Scheduled to arrive in Audi Philippines’ showrooms in early 2025 is the RS 6 Avant Performance version — the latest, most dynamic evolution of the “fast wagon” line tracing its legacy from Audi Sport’s RS 2 of 1994.
The RS 6 Avant Performance is marked by items that distinguish it from the RS 6 Avant, and which create an even more emotive driving experience.
Larger turbochargers and a higher boost pressure result in the RS 6 Avant Performance’s 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo TFSI gasoline engine to produce 630 hp and 850 Nm. The output allows the model to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in only 3.4 seconds — 0.2 seconds faster than the RS 6 Avant.
Paired to the V8 engine is an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission that sends power to Audi’s renowned quattro all-wheel drive system. A self-locking mechanical center differential distributes power between the front and rear axle depending on which one has better traction underfoot.
Less insulation throughout the RS 6 Avant Performance lightens it by eight kilograms, all while producing a more thrilling soundtrack inside the cabin. Wheels markedly lighter mean further weight reduction, in the process increasing performance in a car that has earned the nod of a four-time world champion.
