The roads just got a little safer.
The man who was seen in a viral video demanding P100 from lady driver Mane Teodoro along EDSA was apprehended by Pasay City police on Sunday.
The vagrant was identified as Richard dela Cruz, 24, originally from Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija.
The suspect is now in the custody of the city police investigation unit and will be charged with alarm and scandal and illegal possession of a bladed weapon, The STAR reported.
According to police, Dela Cruz was apprehended while in the act of throwing stones at cars along Manlunas Street in Barangay 183, Villamor at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday.
A 10-inch butterfly knife was seized from the suspect upon frisking.
The suspect demanded P100 from a lady driver, and was caught on dash cam video pounding her car with a rock after she refused to give him the money.
Dela Cruz was later spotted sleeping on the pavement outside a convenience store near the MRT-3 Taft Station.
In an exclusive interview with WHEELS.PH, Mane Teodoro, the victim who shared her dash cam video which went viral, narrated that she was asked to go the Pasay Police Station yesterday after filing a case with Mandaluyong City police.
“Later after work, I’ll file a case with the fiscal’s office. I’ll find out what case I can file,” she told WHEELS.PH. “Nagbigay na po ako statement. Kasama ko po yung other victim (I gave my statement, and I was with the other victim.)”
She continued, “Tuloy ang case kahit nakakaawa siyang tignan (The case will continue even if he looks pitiful). This is for all the victims na nagasgasan niya ng kotse (This is for all the victims with scratched cars). And more than the gastos sa gasgas (More than the cost of fixing the scratches), it’s really the trauma that he caused to me and my officemate. One less danger off the street.”
Teodoro said she thinks the name the suspect gave is spurious. “I doubt if it’s true because he doesn’t have any ID. Some concerned citizens gave (me) a different name.” – With reporting from Ghio Ong and Kap Maceda Aguila/The STAR
