As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow, the conversation around charging is moving beyond a simple question: How fast can an EV charge?
Geely Auto Group is taking a broader approach with its new Geely Smart Charging technology, an AI-powered energy management system designed to make ultra-fast charging not only faster, but also smarter, cooler and more supportive of long-term battery health.
Unveiled globally on September 23, 2026, Geely Smart Charging introduces Xingrui PowerMind, an AI energy model jointly developed by Geely Auto Group and AI company StepFun. The system coordinates the vehicle, battery, charging station, cloud, power grid and energy storage system to intelligently manage the charging process.
FAST CHARGING, WITH INTELLIGENCE BEHIND IT
At the heart of Geely Smart Charging is an AI system capable of predicting battery temperature up to 30 seconds in advance.
Rather than waiting for temperatures to rise before reducing charging power, the system dynamically adjusts power delivery according to the battery’s real-time condition.
Geely says the technology is designed to maintain an average battery charging temperature below 55°C, while limiting peak temperature to below 65°C.
This matters in a tropical country like the Philippines, where it is hot most of the year, as the technology helps keep the battery at the right temperature during charging.
An end-to-end five-point liquid-cooling system further manages heat across the entire charging chain — from the charging station’s energy-storage battery and charging pile, through the charging cable and charging port, to the vehicle’s battery pack.
This means Geely’s approach to ultra-fast charging is not simply about delivering more power, but about managing the entire charging system more intelligently.
FROM FAST CHARGING TO BATTERY CARE
Geely Smart Charging also addresses another important consideration for EV users: battery longevity under repeated fast charging.
The company has developed Lithium-ion Pulse Restoration Technology, which uses micro-pulse currents to help reactivate lithium ions that can accumulate at the negative electrode during repeated fast charging.
Combined with AI-based charging management, Geely says the technology can increase battery cycle life by up to 20 percent.
The system can also adjust peak current, cooling intensity and charging duration according to the condition of each vehicle and battery.
For home charging, Geely has developed a low-rate charging strategy designed to help mitigate degradation associated with repeated fast charging and support battery health throughout the battery’s lifecycle.
PUSHING THE LIMITS OF ULTRA-FAST CHARGING
Geely’s latest technology also pushes charging performance to new levels.
The fifth-generation Geely Smart Charging Station supports peak charging power of up to 2,250 kW, while the Shendun Golden Battery supports charging rates of up to 12C, which in theory means a full charge in about five minutes.
In real-world testing, batteries used in the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001 achieved:
- 10% to 70% in 4 minutes and 30 seconds
- 10% to 97% in 8 minutes and 40 seconds
Geely describes this as its fastest production-ready charging performance to date.
The company has also introduced its Next-Generation Ultra Short Blade Battery, which uses Geely-developed laser-welding technology to reduce heat generated during charging by 10 percent, while supporting peak charging rates of up to 6C.
A GLIMPSE INTO GEELY’S NEXT GENERATION OF ELECTRIFICATION
For the Philippine market, the development comes as Geely continues to expand its electrified lineup, which includes the Geely EX2 and Geely EX5, and its EM-i Super Hybrid technology in the Geely EX5 EM-i.
The latest charging technology is part of Geely’s global technology roadmap. It does not mean that current Philippine-market models support the full 2,250 kW charging capability.
Instead, it offers a glimpse into the direction of Geely’s next generation of electrification — where charging, battery management, thermal control and energy systems work together as one intelligent ecosystem.
For Filipino drivers, this development also reflects a broader shift in how electrified mobility is evolving: from simply adding more power to making the entire energy experience faster, smarter, cooler and longer-lasting.
As Geely continues to introduce new electrified technologies and models in the Philippines, its latest Smart Charging development demonstrates how the brand is looking beyond the conventional definition of EV performance — and toward a more intelligent approach to everyday mobility.
