2021 Audi Q7 leads segment in advanced digital technologies

Providing luxurious seating for seven people and plenty of luggage space, the new, 2021 Audi Q7 continues to set the benchmark for premium family SUVs with its suite of advanced digital technologies that match its thoroughly updated exterior features.

Now available in Audi Philippines’ showrooms, the new Audi Q7—which can be presented via the Audi Live View online luxury experience that lets clients engage in real time with an Audi product expert—comes fully equipped with Audi’s class-leading infotainment and driver-assist systems. Chief among these is the MMI touch response concept that integrates numerous functions with two touchscreen displays offering haptic feedback.

With the MMI touch response, conventional buttons, controls and the touchpad are replaced by a pair of large, high-resolution displays. The display on the dashboard measures 10.1 inches and blends seamlessly with the high-gloss black panel beside it when switched off. When activated, the touchscreen allows access to navigation, multimedia, connectivity, parking assist and vehicle setting functions. To control these, simply click, swipe, zoom and scroll on the display’s sharply rendered images, graphics and icons—just like with a smartphone.

The system also connects to Apple Car Play and Android Auto devices, seamlessly accessing their numerous functions through the Audi smartphone interface that comes standard in Audi models. With this, users can conveniently and safely get turn-by-turn navigation directions, make calls, send and receive messages, listen to music, and hold online meetings while on the road.

The new Audi Q7’s second touchscreen display placed on the center console, measuring 8.6 inches, accesses the climate controls and the air quality package. The preferred settings for functions are capable of being saved as favorites. Additionally, users can enter text commands via a digital keyboard or by advanced handwriting recognition technology.

With both displays, haptic feedback is a key advantage as it offers users a mechanical pulse that can be felt by their fingertip, as well as a clicking sound notifying them of command inputs. This minimizes the need for visual confirmation.

In the new Audi Q7, MMI touch response is complemented by the Audi virtual cockpit located on the instrument cluster. The virtual cockpit’s high-resolution 12.3-inch display can be switched between two views through the multifunction steering wheel. Along with the usual vehicle and engine speed readouts, it also shows a choice of navigational maps and directions, infotainment selections, the status of various driver-assist systems, phone directory, outside temperature, and other useful information.

Along with these intuitive technologies, the new Audi Q7 also comes equipped with an extensive array of driver-assist systems. Among these are 360-degree cameras that constantly scan the vehicle’s immediate vicinity, then render obstacles in high-resolution graphics. A virtual overhead view shown on the MMI display, as well as panoramic view in front and the rear, makes it easier to park the vehicle, especially in tight spaces. Guide lines in the reversing camera view provide additional assistance. Plus, the touchscreen can be used to swivel or zoom in on the image of the vehicle and its actual surroundings to ensure no obstacle, like pets or children, are hidden from the driver’s view.

Enhancing all these digital technologies is a cabin lined with premium features that include the three-spoke leather-covered multifunction plus steering wheel with paddle shifters; a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system; an ambient LED lighting package; four-zone automatic air-conditioning; and Audi Music Interface in the rear seat. The rearmost third-row seat can be conveniently folded down or raised up with a push of a button. The tailgate is electrically operated and has foot-gesture control. As a luxury SUV, the new Audi Q7 boasts of power-latching, soft-closing doors.

Just as technologically advanced is the powertrain of the new Audi Q7, comprised of a 3.0-liter TDI V6 turbocharged diesel engine that makes 286 hp and 600 Nm, an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and the quattro all-wheel drive. The engine is equipped with a mild hybrid system, guaranteeing efficiency along with performance. The system uses a belt alternator starter to power a 48-volt main electrical system, in which a compact lithium-ion battery stores energy recovered during braking. The new Audi Q7 uses this energy to coast for up to 40 seconds with its engine switched off—it restarts immediately as soon as the accelerator is pressed.
