MSCC Mazda Miata Spec Series returns for 2023

As far as one-make sports car races are concerned, the MSCC Miata Spec Series stands out as the one of its kind. For 2023, Mazda Philippines and the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) have announced its return following the success of the series last year. The series is heralded as MSCC’s official race event that will host 22 racers aboard tuned Mazda MX-5 sports cars.

Mazda Philippines’ President and CEO Steven Tan has expressed his eagerness to continue the series in 2023.

“This one-make format provides a unique opportunity for MSCC members to polish their skills and enjoy the pure essence of driving that only an MX-5 can provide,” Tan commented.

The 2023 season will see the return of Allan Uy, the inaugural season’s overall champion, as well as his closest rivals, Angie King and Tyson Sy. Joining the grid this year are Red Diwa, Tonypet Albano, and Manny Eduque, while Master Class Champion Windy Imperial and Novice Class Champion Jamal Almario are also set to return.

One significant change to this year’s MSCC Miata Spec Series is that it will race at two venues: the Clark International Speedway (CIS) and the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC). The first two legs, scheduled for April 15 and June 24, will happen at BRC, while the final two legs, slated for August 26 and October 28, will be done at the CIS. With a bigger grid and more venues to race at, the 2023 season promises to be an exciting one for both the racers and the fans.

Taken from the largest one-make grassroots race series in the world, the Mazda Spec Miata, the MSCC Miata Spec Series cars are all built from brand-new Mazda MX-5 Soft Top units. The MSCC Miata Spec Series race vehicles have been built to assure safe and fun racing competition and achieve a very high quality of tuning and performance.

All MSCC Miata Spec Series cars are equipped with stock Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter engines and six-speed SkyActiv manual transmissions. Each car’s suspension components have been upgraded and reinforced to maximize handling and performance on the track while ensuring drivability on the road.

For the 2023 season, the MSCC Miata Spec Series is sponsored by Pilipinas Shell, GT Radial, and B.R.M. Chronographes.

Pilipinas Shell has been a major business partner of Mazda Philippines since 2013, supplying fully synthetic Shell Helix Ultra Professional lubricants to the Mazda Philippines dealership network. For the 2023 MSCC Miata Spec Series, Shell’s most advanced fuel, V-Power, will fuel the MX-5 race cars.

The Giti Tire group, represented by its exclusive Philippine distributor, Northern Automax Intersales Inc., will equip every MSCC Miata Spec Series MX-5 with its race-winning GT Radial Champiro SX2. The tire has proven itself a race winner, garnering titles and accolades over years of competition.

Finally, a new partner for 2023, B.R.M. Chronographes, will serve as the MSCC Miata Spec Series’ official timekeeper. The watch brand takes inspiration from automotive technology and motorsports, combining a passion for racing with the business of watchmaking.
