There are already a lot of BYD cars on the road here in the Philippines thanks to the brand entering all the hotly contested segments in the country. They have an offering in the 7-seater MPV, compact crossover, and the sedan categories among others. Their next sight is one where the old guards still dominate and new players find it hard to disrupt – the mid-size SUV market. For that, they made a new formula. Why not take their flagship SUV – the BYD Tang – and make it more attainable? Enter the all-new BYD Tang DM-i.

The all-new BYD Tang DM-i is a 7-seater SUV that combines sleek styling, comfort, with other features you expect from a car in its category. It’s compatible with those looking for their first or next family car but one that is more frugal than its competitors and more sustainable thanks to its DM-i technology.
There’s a lot of space in the Tang DM-i thanks to its 4,870mm length, 1,950mm width, and 1,725mm tall. Wheelbase is at 2,820mm while ground clearance is at 182mm. It may not be as tall as others in its class, but it more than makes up for it in other areas. Like how it still has 235 liters of space at the rear even with the third-row seat up.

BYD utilized a Dragon Face grille for the Tang DM-i, making it very distinct from its battery-electric counterpart. This new front face is complemented by an all-LED lighting system with Automatic Headlights for a sharper look. There’s 20-inch alloy wheels, minimal cladding for more elegant angles, and a minimalist rear with an LED light running across the pwoered tailgate.

Inside, the cabin has a more subdued styling. They removed the LED accent lights on the dashboard but it only made the cabin more elegant. It has a simplified look with the 2-tone interior of black and grey. They also retained all the shapes, even the pattern on the seats, that clearly maintain the elevated standing of the Tang DM-i over other DM-i models in BYD’s local lineup.
The biggest difference though, more than the colors and lighting in the cabin, is the center touchscreen of the Tang DM-i. It’s the first BYD in the country to not have a rotating touchscreen. Personally, that’s a good thing to drive the price down since Apple CarPlay and Android Auto do not have support for it anyway.

Other creature comforts in the cabin include 8-way Powered Driver Seat with Heating and Ventilation, 4-way Powered Front Passenger Seat, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, Dual-Zone Climate Control, Dynaudio 12-speaker system, Panoramic Sunroof, 50w Wireless Charger, and USB-C charging ports.
Another deviation from its sibling DM-i models is the BYD Tang DM-i uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine as its generator, along with an electronic motor that together makes 271 PS and 315 Nm of torque. Paired with a 21.5 kWh battery, this allows the BYD Tang DM-i to go for 110 km of EV only range or a combined 1,160km.

Charging from 15% to 100% with a 7 kW charger takes 3 hours, while fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 30 minutes with a 40 kW charger. It will also come with a portable charger, 7 kW wall charger, and Vehicle-to-Load Adapter.
BYD’s DiPilot safety suite is also present in the Tang DM-i on top of standard safety features. It has a 360-degree camera with See-Through Mode, 8-sensor Radar System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Door Open Warning, Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking System, and Rear Cross Traffic Brake among others.
The all-new BYD Tang DM-i will be available in Pearl White, Moonstone Grey, and Silver Sand Black. It arrives in a single variant priced at PHP 2,098,000.
