Two souls, one sports car: The Ferrari Amalfi launches in ASEAN

Ferrari has unveiled the Amalfi, its newest 2+ coupe in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Replacing the Roma in the Prancing Horse’s line-up, the front mid-engine V8-powered sportscar offers an unprecedented balance between adrenaline and everyday usability; a reason why it’s deemed to have two souls.

Drawing inspirations from the Ferrari Roma, the Amalfi takes on an even more sculpted and minimalist look. The surfaces are all about volume, creating a monolithic appearance. The lighting units are now integrated into a cut along the fenders, while the front is now devoid of a traditional grille. Like the 12Cilindri and F80, there’s now a body-colored wing above a dark recessed band that integrates not just the headlights, but the various sensors as well. The same goes for the rear with a rear windshield that merges with the spoiler profile and taillights integrated into cuts as well. The launch color, Verde Costiera, is inspired by the reflections of the sea along the Amalfi coast.

The Amalfi is also the result of a complex and close collaboration between Ferrari’s aerodynamics department and the Ferrari Styling Centre. The result is a body sculpted in every detail, where each element serves a precise function. The aerodynamic solutions include cleverly hidden ducts and fairings, and even an underbody that’s been designed to maximize efficiency. Finally, the active mobile rear wing, while integrating into the tail of the Amalfi, provides up to 110 kilograms of downforce.

Key to the Amalfi’s “Two Souls” approach is a twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8. Here, the output has been reworked to 640 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 760 Nm of torque from 3,000 to 5,750 rpm. Redline has been raised to 7,600 rpm as well. The performance improvement is down to advanced turbocharging management, lightweight camshafts, and a redesigned engine block. It’s also the first Ferrari to use low-viscosity oil. All in all, the Amalfi still does the century sprint in 3.3 seconds, while the 200 km/h is done in just 9 seconds.

Typical of Ferrari, the Amalfi receives its own signature sound. The flat-plane crankshaft and equal-length exhaust headers contribute to a distinctive firing sequence, while the exhaust system—engineered to meet the toughest emissions regulations—has a new proportionally controlled bypass valve that can adapt the exhaust note to different driving conditions.

The 8-speed dual-clutch oil-bath transmission, first introduced with the SF90 Stradale, mates with the engine and has been further optimized with a more powerful control unit and deeper integration with the engine software.

In terms of handling, the Amalfi is the latest Ferrari to take on brake-by-wire for reduced pedal travel and enhanced modulation even when the ABS is engaged. The steering is also made quicker and more accurate, while a rear active spoiler improves high speed stability and braking. This is on top of a perfect 50-50 front-to-rear weight distribution. The wheel and tire package—245/35R20s at the front and 285/35R20s at the back—has been carefully chosen to balance comfort with “progressive handling.”

Inside, the same dual cockpit layout remains. For the Amalfi, a “monolithic layout” with the instrument cluster and air vents made to look as one, has been adopted. The 15.6-inch instrument cluster is supplemented by a 10.25-inch capacitive touchscreen in the middle and a third 8.8-inch screen for the passenger. Meanwhile, the center tunnel is milled from a block of anodized aluminum, and it houses the gear selector, key slot, wireless charging pad, and secondary controls. Finally, Ferrari has adopted physical buttons to the steering wheel.

The interior color palette reflects the car’s bold character, with material and color combinations that emphasize the concept of sportiness. Optional comfort seats are available in three sizes and are equipped with 10 air chambers for the massage function—with five programs and three intensity levels—together with ventilation for both seat and backrest.

Completing the onboard experience, the optional Burmester Premium Audio System delivers benchmark sound quality thanks to 14 speakers and 1,200 watts of power. Ring radiator tweeters ensure crystal-clear high frequencies, while three listening presets allow users to personalize the acoustic experience to their preferences. The materials and finish of the speakers, selected for their elegance and tactile quality, help make the cabin an immersive and sophisticated environment.

With the regional launch of the Amalfi, it takes a step closer to its eventual Philippine launch which is slated for May. Velocita Motors, the official and executive distributor of Ferrari in the Philippines is already taking reservations.
