The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reopened Marcos Bridge in Marikina City after five months of repair works.
DPWH Sec. Mark Villar said that the completion of the Marcos Bridge comes just in time for the observance of the All Saints’ Day break, where people troop to honor the departed at cemeteries such as the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.
“As an integral access to Quezon City from the east of Rizal province, rehabilitation works on the bridge after its 40 years of service are necessary to ensure the safety and convenience of the public,” Villar said.
According to the official, the rehabilitation of the bridge was initially targeted to be finished by April 2020. However, the agency fast-tracked the operation to accommodate the influx of people at this time.
In August, the second phase of the project forced the closure of the westbound lanes while the eastbound lanes have been closed to traffic since last May.
The P213.46-million project included the re-decking of a 315-l.m. slab, strengthening of girders, and replacement of expansion joints, concrete sidewalks, as well as railing and drain pipes.
