6 hurt as ailing driver crashes bus on NLEX

Six people were hurt after a bus figured in an accident on the North Luzon Expressway in Balintawak, Caloocan City on Sunday.

According to city police chief Col. Noel Flores, the Manila-bound First North Luzon bus crashed into the steel barrier of the Skyway project at 9 a.m.

Investigation revealed that the incident occurred when the driver, Jesus Bautista, lost control of the vehicle when he felt pain in his chest. It is unclear if Bautista suffered a cardiac episode.

Five passengers were injured in the incident, which triggered heavy traffic along the expressway as people began to return to Manila after the long Undas break.

The victims were rushed to the Manila Central University Hospital in Caloocan for treatment. – Marc Jayson Cayabyab
