The Tivoli, Rexton, and Musso Grand are back in the Philippines bearing a new brand and under a new distributor. The old SsangYong brand is now known as KG Mobility (KGM for short) and will be distributed in the Philippines by The Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCCI). Aside from the three models mentioned, they’re also bringing in the Tivoli Grand (the version that has a longer wheelbase) and the all-new KGM Torres.
Tivoli and Tivoli Grand
These two crossovers are basically the same, with the Tivoli Grand having an ‘extension.’ They look similar upfront with their EV-looking front fascia, but it’s easy to spot which is which at the back. The Tivoli has a hump on its tailgate, as if there’s a spare wheel bolted to it, while the Tivoli Grand’s is flat. The ‘Grand’ got its name thanks to 238 mm of additional length, giving it the cargo area a total of 1,440 liters of space with the second row down.
The two are both 5-seater crossovers that run on a 1.6-liter engine that makes 128ps and 160Nm of torque, and which is paired to an AISIN 6-speed automatic. Standard on both are a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, 8-inch touchscreen with Apple and Android, and automatic headlights. The Tivoli Grand gets an additional Front and Rear Parking Assist and Dual Zone Climate Control.
Torres
The KGM Torres is the newest name in the KGM lineup and it’s a compact crossover that features the latest design language from the brand. It has a very utilitarian front face, chiseled flares, but still has the familiar rear end contours reminiscent of its brothers.
Under the hood is a more spritely 1.5-liter turbo engine that makes 163ps and 280Nm of torque, with a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. It has a 1.5-ton towing capability, 7 airbags, wireless charging, digital gauge cluster, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple and Android connectivity.
Rexton
KGM is looking to make a dent in the midsize SUV market with the Rexton. Unlike its Japanese rivals, the Rexton makes do with less lines and a cleaner aesthetic overall. They also went all-out in the cabin with its mix of modern tech, plush interior, and luxurious look and feel. It also received an Advanced Driver Assist System, and Smart Power Tailgate, among others.
There are only two variants for the Rexton and both will have a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine that makes 202ps and 441Nm of torque, coupled to an 8-speed automatic.
Musso Grand
KGM isn’t holding back as it immediately resumes its battle in the highly contested pickup wars in the Philippines with their Musso Grand. It continues its combination of rugged capability and plush cabin with its Quad-Frame design, 1,262 liters of hauling capacity, and 3.5 ton of towing capacity. It’s all thanks to the 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine that puts out 187ps and 420 Nm of torque, sending power to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic with the on-the-fly 4WD controls.
The cabin gets modern amenities like 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 12.3 inch touchscreen with Apple and Android, 360-camera system, and advanced safety bits like Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Warning, among others.
