BYD unveils their new flagship performance EV in the Sealion 7

We’ll have to adjust our norms again with BYD’s naming schemes. The BYD Sealion 6, which is a hybrid, is unrelated to the brand’s new car. Touted as the brand’s “flagship performance EV,” the new BYD Sealion 7 roars into the PH market with a 530 PS of power and starts at PHP 2,588,000.

The look of the Sealion 7 is cleaner than the 6, mainly thanks to the lack of “whiskers” on the front face. In its place are more contours for faux vents giving it a sporty vibe instead. It’s complemented by a clean side profile, classic looking 20-inch wheels, and a rear roofline that slopes down giving it a fastback appeal.

What makes the Sealion 7 take the “flagship” moniker is its raw power. It has 530 PS, 690 Nm of torque, All-Wheel Drive, and an 82.6 kWh battery. It can go from 0-100 kph in 4.5 seconds, which is only 0.7 slower than the Seal 5 performance EV considering the addition of weight in the Sealion 7. Also, they asked us to try that 0-100 in a closed course and I got a 4.2 using the car’s own computer.

And because of the car’s power management, the Sealion 7 can go the distance. It has 542 km of range complemented with Vehicle-to-Load technology for your outdoor power needs. DC fast charging is up to 150 kW that can charge the car in 30 minutes from 30-80%. Standard AC charging is up to 11 kW and charges from 15-100% in 16 hours.

BYD also did the math in early May for the savings you can have with the Sealion 7. Against a diesel car, you can have 87.3%, while the number is at 82.9% when pitted against a gasoline-powered car. This was done when the diesel was at PHP 150/L.

Now all that power is hidden in a cabin that doesn’t really exude sporty, but that of classiness. The dashboard has a clean layout, the wireless charger is neatly embedded on the center console, and there are still buttons for the most crucial controls you’ll want immediately. I also appreciate the 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster that’s placed flush on the dash, safe from the glare of the afternoon sun. The rotating touchscreen also makes its return in 15.6-inches, while the Dynamic Ambient Lighting puts extra flair on the premium look of the cabin.

There’s a massive sunroof up top that reaches the second row. You won’t have to worry about the heat though because the cover is solid, there’s a Dual-Zone Climate Control, and rear air vents are present for the backseat occupants. The driver is also treated to an 8-way power adjustable seat with leg rest and memory function. The front passenger has a 6-way power adjustable seat with both being ventilated.

The Sealion 7 didn’t skimp on any safety feature for current standards. It has 8 airbags, Hill Hold Control, and a full suite of BYD’s DiPilot Advanced Driver Assist System. This includes a 360-camera system, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Assist, Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Heads-Up Display, Blind Spot Detection, and Automatic Emergency Braking among others. The total package is also legit as the Sealion 7 got a 5-star rating in Australasian New Car Assessment Program.

The BYD Sealion 7 will come in Shark Grey, Aurora White, Cosmos Black, and Deep Sea Blue priced at PHP 2,588,000. It comes with a 6-year vehicle warranty, 8-years for the battery, and 8-year warranty for the drive unit. It has a FREE wall-mounted chager, free portable charger, and vehicle-to-load adapter. You can see it in the metal in Glorietta Activity Center until May 31, 2026. Alternatively, you can visit any of BYD’s 81 dealerships nationwide.
