Ford PH Announces First EV to Arrive Locally

Before the year ended in 2024, Ford Philippines made a surprise announcement: it would be launching electrified models in 2025. Six months in, the Blue Oval has announced a follow-up to that promise by officially naming its first electric vehicle (EV), the Mustang Mach-E, scheduled to arrive in the country by the third quarter of 2025. The unexpected announcement was made by Ford Philippines Managing Director Pedro Simoes at a media gathering.

“It is only fitting that we take our big leap in our electrification journey with an iconic Ford vehicle,” said Simoes. “The arrival of the Mach-E reinforces Ford as a credible and must-watch player in the electric vehicle segment in the country.”

The Mustang Mach-E is Ford’s first all-electric vehicle developed from the ground up and serves as a bold statement of intent in an increasingly competitive EV landscape. Combining Mustang-inspired performance with cutting-edge EV technology in a crossover form factor, the Mach-E aims to bring the brand’s iconic pony car legacy into the electric age.

First unveiled globally in 2019, the Mach-E is currently manufactured at Ford’s Cuautitlán plant in Mexico, as well as in China as part of Ford’s joint venture with Changan. It’s unclear if the company will be sourcing its Mustang Mach-E in China to keep the pricing competitive against Chinese competitors, but that would be the most logical move.

Despite getting criticized for its name, especially among Mustang fans, the EV has gained popularity in several markets for its mix of performance, practicality, and modern design. Depending on the variant, the Mach-E offers up 610 kilometers of range on a single charge based on the WLTP standards and can deliver up to 480 horsepower in its high-performance GT version.

“With a continuously growing community of Mustang owners in the Philippines, the Mustang Mach-E will surely give enthusiasts an electrified experience like no other,” Simoes added.

Ford joins a growing list of automakers introducing EVs to the Philippine market, with the current push for greener mobility solutions through incentives and infrastructure development, albeit a bit sluggish compared to other countries. There’s also an increasing demand for electrified models due to their exemption in certain regulations like the number coding scheme current in force in Metro Manila.

Full details about the Mustang Mach-E’s local launch, including dealership availability and final specs, are expected to be announced closer to its release date.
