BYD Yangwang U9X takes the record for fastest EV hypercar in The Ring

Just a month after it was announced as the fastest EV hypercar in the world when it clocked 496km/h, the BYD Yangwang U9X took another lauded record. This time, it topped the charts at Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit at 6min59.157sec which is 5 seconds faster than the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra with Track Package.

This makes the Yangwang U9X the first EV hypercar to go under 7 mins in The Ring. The drive was done on August 22, 2025 with Moritz Kranz behind the wheel. Kranz is a German racer most known for his stint in GT races and has done almost 10,000 laps in the Nodschleife circuit.

“The Nurburgring Nordschleife is the most demanding track, and our lap time is a testament to the development skills of BYD and Yangwang. Without their intense work to balance a high-powered EV platform with the difficult demands of the chassis set-up, this great lap time would not have been possible,” said Kranz.

According to BYD, they have been doing long-term testing at the Nordschleife since July 2024 and everything has been fed to the development of the Yangwang U9X. While it has the same e-4 platform and DiSus-X intelligent body control system as the standard U9, the U9X takes things further where it matters most.

It has 4 high-performance motors capable of running up to 30,000 rpm with a combined output of over 3,000 horsepower. The cooling system was also redesigned, there’s new titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic brakes, GiTiSport e-GTR2 PRO semi-slick tires, and a 1,200V ultra-high-voltage battery system.

These upgrades are the reason why it went to 496 km/h at the ATP test track and now topped the charts for EV hypercars at the Nordschleife.

“We are dedicated to pushing the limits of what can be achieved through technology, and the Nürburgring is such a legendary challenge for cars and drivers that it is only natural for our engineers to pursue their dreams there,” said Stella Li, BYD Executive Vice President.
