The Next Generation Tamaraw emerged as a driver of Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation’s (TMP) corporate sustainability in 2025, given its linkages and impact to automotive industry development, job creation, MSME growth, community mobility, and indirect economic growth.
In its latest Sustainability Report, TMP details the Tamaraw’s first full year in the Philippine market, where it captured 36% of the pure commercial vehicle (CV) market, eventually securing the No. 1 position in the light CV segment.
Building on the PHP 5.5-billion investment for vehicle production, parts localization, and conversion capabilities, the Tamaraw has opened opportunities for local vehicle designers, engineers, part suppliers, external body builders and niche conversion businesses. In turn, this additional Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) model in TMP’s line-up has stimulated employment and localization in the automotive value chain.
According to Masando Hashimoto, President of TMP, the Tamaraw represents a key driver of sustainable growth for the company, reflecting TMP’s commitment to local manufacturing, value creation, and initiatives that contribute to its people, communities, and the environment.
“The Tamaraw is one of our major means in creating and adding new value for both our internal and external stakeholders, from the upstream to downstream. As we further navigate a dynamic automotive landscape, our long-term goal is to strengthen our role as a dedicated partner in Philippine nation-building through local manufacturing, innovation, and sustainable mobility,” Hashimoto said.
Driving Up Volumes
In 2025, TMP notably recorded its highest-ever CKD production volume at 63,803 units, driven by continued production of the CKD Vios, Innova, and Tamaraw. This brings the company’s cumulative vehicle production to more than 1.18 million units (by end-2025) and PHP 17 billion in local procurement from domestic suppliers for 2025 alone.
Moreover, the company distributed PHP 283.83 billion in economic value in 2025, including PHP 43.13 billion in taxes and duties remitted through its local operations.
In terms of exports, TMP’s network of Toyota Group export suppliers contributed significantly to the country’s automotive parts exports, generating around USD 1 billion in export sales in 2025, equivalent to 27% of the country’s total automotive parts exports. Of these export sales, around 12% were coursed through Toyota Motor Philippines Logistics, Inc., TMP’s export arm, linking the Philippines to the global supply chain of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts and components.
Creating New Value
The Tamaraw represents TMP’s commitment to creating value beyond mobility. Designed to cater specialized needs of more sectors, including Local Government Units (LGUs) and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), this CKD model provides practical and customizable mobility solutions for local businesses, industries, and public services.
From initially launched three (3) body styles, the Tamaraw has since expanded to six (6) configurations through TMP’s in-house conversion capability with the addition of ambulance, telco van, and race vehicle. Seven (7) more body styles are available through out-house niche conversions available through Toyota dealers.
On the supply side, the Tamaraw has tapped seven (7) local body builders, such as Globalmaxx Manufacturing Corporation, Autovention Corporation, and Almazora Motors Corporation, who are addition to the growing members of the Toyota Suppliers Club. Their expertise allows the conversion of Tamaraw into food truck, patrol vehicle, and the newly registered Modern Public Utility Vehicle (MPUV) among others.
Furthering Sustainable Mobility and Environmental Stewardship
As part of its wider approach to sustainable mobility, TMP expanded its electrified vehicle (xEV) lineup in 2025 with the introduction of the Toyota ATIV hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and Toyota bZ4X—the first Toyota battery electric vehicle (BEV) model in the Philippine market. The company sold 19,516 xEVs during the year, up 39% from 2024.
TMP maintained 100% renewable electricity ratio for its manufacturing operations, avoiding carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from purchased electricity at its Santa Rosa plant, while also working with suppliers, logistics partners, and dealers to reduce emissions across the value chain in support of Toyota’s global goal of achieving carbon neutrality.
Beyond its business operations, TMP continued advancing net positive initiatives through the All Toyota ‘Green Wave’ Project and its partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) under the Tamaraw Conservation Program (TCP). The Green Wave project is now aimed at planting one million trees by 2030 to restore forests, rehabilitate coastal ecosystems, and enhance biodiversity. On the other hand, TMP’s support for the TCP in 2025 focused on providing mobility and equipment to strengthen the patrolling, monitoring, and conservation activities of the “Bantay Tamaraw Rangers” and TCP Office on Mindoro Island.

The report continues TMP’s voluntary sustainability reporting practice, providing stakeholders with information on the company’s environmental, social, and economic performance and progress.
