NLEX plans to move forward with extension to Bataan

The Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) plans to proceed with its plan to extend the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to Bataan.

In a report by The STAR, MPTC president and chief executive officer Rodrigo Franco said that NLEX is planning to submit a proposal for the construction of the extension project to the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) within the second semester.

The construction of the 40-kilometer expressway to connect NLEX from San Fernando to Dinalupihan, Bataan will cost around P20 billion, according to Franco.

The road will begin before San Fernando then cut across Guagua to Dinalupihan. Franco said that they are studying if it would be a good time to push through with the construction of the phase three of the NLEX project since the areas of San Fernando and Angeles in Pampanga already have a lot of streets.

However, the MPTC official said that although the company intends to submit a proposal to the TRB, the beginning of the actual construction on the toll road may take a little more time. – With Richard Mercurio/STAR
