RAM has come a long way since it detached itself from the Dodge marque and became a standalone brand in 2010. The truck-maker has become one of America’s bestselling nameplates in the previous years, with its 1500 line of full-size trucks going head-to-head against the Blue Oval and the Golden Bowtie.
But that doesn’t mean that RAM has completely forgotten its Dodge roots leading us to the birth of the RAM 1500 TRX or just RAM TRX. Positioned right at the top of the food chain, the RAM TRX stands as one of the most powerful trucks you can buy right off the showroom.
A year after its introduction in the US, the RAM TRX has finally reached Philippine shores.
Powered by the engine you’d normally find in Dodge muscle cars, the RAM TRX is not your typical workhorse. It runs on a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 HEMI engine, otherwise known as the Hellcat, which churns out a whopping 702hp and 881Nm of torque. Sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed transmission, this full-size truck can sprint to 97 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
RAM equips the TRX with performance bits to go with that power such as a new five-link independent rear suspension system. This is partnered with an all-new front and rear 2.6-inch Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks that are made specifically for the TRX to provide faster reaction time, exceptional damping, and heat dissipation when traveling at speed through rougher terrain.
The RAM TRX’s design doesn’t need an introduction. Styled with function and form in mind, the front end of the RAM TRX looks menacing while providing ample ventilation for the force inductor and power plant under the hood. It’s equipped with a full LED Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), including twin bi-functional projector headlamps, fog lamps, and tail lamps. It also integrates new LED clearance lamps that are fixed into the hood scoop and front bumper flares. The TRX wears a set of 18-inch black aluminum wheels.
The ruggedness and aggressiveness outside are partnered with an equally busy, carbon-fiber-adorned interior with a tad touch of refinement. It comes with a thick flat-bottomed suede-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, a console shifter, and red suede-and-leather trimmings that can be found in areas like the plush bucket seats and shift knob.
Tech features include a head-up display for the driver, along with 8-way power seats for both the driver and passenger, with 4-way lumbar adjustment and driver seat memory. All seats, front and rear, are either heated or ventilated. To complete the convenient features, the TRX also comes with a digital rearview mirror, a cluster 7-inch TFT full-color display, a new performance-oriented floor shifter, USB charging ports, and a wireless charging dock.
At the center of the dashboard resides a built-in 12-inch touchscreen display with UConnect 12.0 navigation, hooked up to a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system – fully-integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
RAM doesn’t forget that the TRX, despite carrying supercar-beating numbers, is still a truck. It’s still equipped with a Multi-function Dampened Tailgate with Remote Release, 7-pin Wiring Harness, E-Locker Rear Axle, Mopar 4 Adjustable Cargo Tie-down Hooks, a deployable Mopar Bed Step, and Tow Hooks.
For safety, the RAM TRX comes with Advanced Multistage Front Air Bags, Supplement Side Airbags, LATCH-ready Child Seat Anchor System, Blind Spot and Cross Path Detection, Brake Assist, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Full Speed Forward Collision Warning, Parksense Front/Rear Park Assist, a Surround View Camera System, and a Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System.
