Supporting the modern-day heroes

We are at war – not with an invading country that aims to abuse whatever resources we have right now. Although that previous statement is arguable at this point, there’s a more undeniable and pressing concern right now that we face each day.

We are at war with a new coronavirus, and it has reached pandemic levels, wreaking havoc in many countries and affecting the socio-economic status quo. It’s a heart-wrenching sight, especially when you see death tolls piling up every day.

In our country, COVID-19 cases increase steadily on a day-to-day basis. As of this writing, there have been more than 22,000 cases involving frontliners recorded worldwide. More than 4,000 of which have already recovered but sadly, over 1,000 deaths have been recorded. Among those casualties, around 40 health care workers are included in the tally – that’s discounting the over 5,000 COVID-19 cases outside the Philippines, which, more likely than not, include Filipino health care professionals working abroad.

Amid this war, the frontlines aren’t populated by soldiers armed with heavy guns and dressed in heavy armor. Doctors, nurses, and other health professionals leave their homes every day to face the invisible enemy. Worse, some of these health workers had to face an arduous task of reaching the frontlines.

They are our modern-day heroes, risking their lives in the name of their profession and the Hippocratic oath they’ve sworn to.

To some extent, the government and other private companies have extended their hands to provide various transport solutions to our modern-day heroes. Several car companies have joined this movement, even lending out media test vehicles for these frontliners to use.

But if that’s not enough, there are car brands in the Philippines that offer promos, discounts, and other financing leniencies to those who valiantly fight in the frontlines.

Frontliner cash discounts, priority lanes, and more

Suzuki Philippines is among the first to introduce a preferential lane for our frontliners. The Japanese company is offering Big Hero Promo which entitles qualified frontliners to a P15,000 discount on any of the following Suzuki Vehicle: APV, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Swift, and Ertiga.

Even better, the discount can be availed on top of existing dealer discounts until June 30. To qualify, a frontliner just needs to present a valid ID that indicates the profession or field. Volunteer workers, on the other hand, need to present a certification from the respective local government unit.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) offers a different scheme to help our frontliners. Called the Mitsubishi’s Hero Priority Lane, the Diamond brand gives special treatment to qualified personnel, which include midwives and delivery staff. It’s pretty much like a special lane billing, payment, and vehicle delivery for a more convenient car-buying journey.

Moreover, MMPC offers discounts on oil changes for frontliners who own a Mitsubishi vehicle. Just like Suzuki’s promo, MMPC’s Hero Priority Lane is likewise valid until June 30.

Geely Philippines may be busy in promoting its cars for its comeback to the local market, but it’s among the car brands that offer a huge discount to frontliners who wish to own their own Geely. A whopping P130,000 discount awaits frontliners and their immediate relatives, which can be used in purchasing either a Geely Coolray of the recently launched Azkarra compact crossover.

Frontliners just need to present their IDs, while immediate family members need to provide a letter of endorsement and a copy of the frontliner’s ID. Geely’s promo is valid until July 31.

Last, but definitely not the least, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is also offering leniency to its financing terms when involving frontliners. Valid until June 30, medical health workers, police, and military personnel are qualified to avail of a 15 percent downpayment promo, which is lower than the 20 percent industry standard.

Even better, those who wish to avail of this can start paying the monthly amortization two months after the purchase. Toyota’s payment holiday for our modern-day heroes applies to all Toyota vehicles.
