5 things that make the MG S5 EV stand out

I’m not sure if MG intended it to be this way, but their new MG S5 EV is their 5th New Energy Vehicle launched this year. Remember the G50 PHEV? It was followed by the trio of the MG HS PHEV, MG RX9 PHEV, and MG4 Urban EV that were unveiled at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show.

Now, the MG S5 EV is here after a quick teaser last month. This compact crossover has a retail price of PHP 1,448,888 and it continues the brand’s push for greener means of mobility here in the country.

The features of this EV are aplenty so to keep things simple, here are 5 things that makes MG’s 5th NEV – the aptly named MG S5 – stand out.

Let’s begin with something that isn’t exactly on the spec sheet. The design of the MG S5 isn’t as loud as others in its segment and is in line with the brand’s “restraint” so to speak. It resulted in a minimalist design with curves at the right places, and a very clean look. The fascia is simple that makes certain elements stand out like the chequered-flag DRL assembly, emphasizes the subtlety of the headlights, and its contours immediately tells you it can cut through air.

The cabin has a similar story to tell. There’s a clean dashboard layout and made it a little extra with the use of hidden vents for the aircon. In front of the driver is a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and at the center of the dash is a 12.8-inch touchscreen with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The fabric seats aren’t bland and have a nice feel to them, while the rotary shifter gives just enough modernity, finished with the sporty steering wheel. MG also retained physical buttons for key functions in the S5.

Second is the sporty nature of the S5 EV. This is rear-wheel driven meaning the rear wheels are the one connected to the electric motor. This gives you better cornering dynamics and a more balanced driving feel which you’ll definitely enjoy. With 170 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, this makes the S5 more agile than your typical front-wheel driven EV.

This power is paired with a 49 kWh battery that gives it a driving range of around 415 km on a single charge. It can also be charged quickly from 10-90% in just 24 minutes while standard charging is up to 7 kW.

The third thing is the customization available to you here in the S5. It has 5 drive modes in Normal, Sport, Comfort, Snow, and Custom. Regenerative braking also has options in Low, Medium, Strong, and Adaptive. It also has a one-pedal drive that leads to less leg fatigue in city driving as your foot won’t have to go back and forth between the brake and throttle pedal.

Fourth is the robust safety package the S5 has. It’s stacked with modern standard amenities like 7 airbags, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Rear Sensors and a Rear Camera.

MG Pilot is also present for the S5. It hosts a few advanced safety features like Front Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Driver Monitoring System among others. Combined with the standard safety bits, this gave the S5 EV a 5-star rating from the Euro NCAP and ANCAP.

The last thing that makes the all-new S5 EV stand out is the price. It will retail for PHP 1,448,888 pesos but has an introductory price of PHP 1,408,888. That’s not all. The all-new MG S5 EV will be available in Desert Sand Beige, Andes Gray, Cosmic Silver, and Dover White. Meanwhile, the MG Multiply Greatness Tour will continue beyond August 30. It will be held in Pampanga, Laguna, and Cebu with dates to be announced at a later date.
