The growth of the hybrid segment is now accelerating at a faster pace, with more and more motorists experiencing the incredible fuel mileage (700 or more kilometers on one tankful) that a true hybrid vehicle can achieve—and spreading the word. But while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) can reach 900 to 1,300 kilometers per tankful, they need charging and are significantly more expensive than HEVs.
Enter the all-new Chery Tiggo Cross HEV. Coming in with an introductory price of P1,198,000, it’s currently the lowest priced true hybrid (not a mild hybrid) on the market.

For that price, you get a good-looking subcompact crossover that can travel up to 1,200 kilometers on a full tank. Built with cutting-edge Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) Technology, the new Tiggo Cross HEV boasts a powerful 204ps power output and 310Nm of torque—numbers that are not just way more than what you’ll need for everyday driving, but numbers that will make the driving experience that much more fun.

The response and acceleration that the Tiggo Cross HEV delivers is the kind that allows you to get from point A to point B with a smile on your face. Believe me, the ability to overtake with a slight tap on the gas pedal takes much of the stress in driving. “Effortless” is the word. It’s usually reserved for vehicles costing P1.6 million or more—not P1,198,000.
Handling is fun, too. It responds to steering inputs instantly and turns into corners with minimal body roll. China-made cars usually have too-soft suspension damping, but the Tiggo Cross HEV seems to have ironed out that wrinkle. And it does so without any hint of suspension harshness or stiffness.

Ditto with the transmission. The Tiggo Cross HEV uses a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that serves up seamless shifts and transmits just the right amount of power depending on your gas pedal input—never more, never less. The DHT has Eco and Sport settings to tailor your drive.
The car also has regenerative braking, which not only helps recharge the battery as you drive, it helps slow down the car when you release the accelerator, further minimizing your braking needs, which results in less driving stress. You really need to experience it in a long drive. Not having to brake very often because the car “engine-brakes” by itself can be very relaxing. It’s simply so easy and effortless to drive.

So the drive is rewarding and basically flawless. How’s the styling? Thankfully, the Tiggo Cross HEV has the design to back up the energetic and delightfully refined performance.
The overall style is chunky-sporty in a Mini Cooper sort of way. The front grabs attention with its huge grille and mean-looking headlamps. Distinctive vertical DRLs add more style. The side features a jaunty windowline that sweeps up towards the rear. There’s a blacked-out panel between the C and D pillars that continues the shape of the door windows. If the side windows are tinted, you’d think the rear panel is glass also—but its sheet metal. Cool.

The rear end continues the chunky look, but has a premium feel, thanks to the continuous center garnish that connects the distinctive LED taillamps. A rear spoiler, diffuser and vertical reflectors add a sportier vibe to the pretty rear end.
On the safety front, the Tiggo Cross HEV boasts a 5-star ANCAP safety rating. Safety features include 6 airbags, a high-rigidity body structure, and a comprehensive 14 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) functions. It also integrates a 360° camera with transparent view, Adaptive Cruise Control, and other smart safety innovations to ensure peace of mind on every journey.

Inside, drivers are greeted with a 10.25” HD dual display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice-activated controls, 50W wireless charging, and power sunroof. The spacious and ergonomic cabin offers 6-way power adjustable seats and 4-way lumbar support, while dual-zone climate control with rear vents ensures that every ride is a comfortable one. Upholstery is faux leather that’s softer and more supple than the real thing—and also seems to be cooler under the sun than genuine leather.
The all-new Tiggo Cross HEV comes with an 8-year or 160,000 kms (whichever comes first) high voltage battery warranty and a 5-year or 150,000 kms (whichever comes first) bumper-to-bumper warranty.
The Tiggo Cross HEV is on a mall tour now with the following schedules: September 2–8 – SM Marikina (Ground Floor), September 10–16 – SM Dasmariñas (Lower Ground Floor, near food court), and September 19–25 – SM East Ortigas (Ground Floor, Main Atrium Exhibit Area).
