2026 TGR Philippine Cup Race Weekend 2 Drivers

The second Race Weekend of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP)’s premier racing series, is in the books. This leg was held at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Beyond the usual competition on the racetrack, Race Weekend 2 of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup also served an important purpose: the event became a “rolling laboratory” for testing low-carbon biofuels. TMP is the first car manufacturer to test the use of biofuels for motorsports in the Philippines, and this initiative comes in line with its mission to advance the cause of more sustainable motorsports.

Fuel Testing Area

The race cars competing this weekend in the Vios One-Make Races used an E20 bio-ethanol blend, while the Tamaraw One-Make Races used a B5 coco-biodiesel blend. In addition to being low-carbon alternatives, the use of these biofuels supports Philippine energy security and agricultural sector development, as it helps reduce petroleum importation while sourcing biofuel products from feedstock grown by local coconut and sugarcane farmers.

Through testing in extreme motorsports conditions on the racetrack, Toyota continues to evaluate the biofuels’ performance, efficiency, and reliability, and commits to share results with government agencies and key biofuel stakeholders advocating for broader public adoption. Currently, around three-quarters of Toyota and Lexus gasoline models are already E20-compatible, while all Toyota diesel models are B5-compatible.

This biofuel initiative is a major step in Toyota’s multi-pathway approach, which seeks to diversify both powertrain technologies and energy sources in the wider goal of carbon neutrality.

The increased use of and capacity for locally sourced biofuels is a big win for fuel security in the Philippines, as it aims to gradually reduce the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels. Providing motorists with more sustainable fuel options for common ICE models such as the Vios and Tamaraw is also a big win for the auto industry as a whole. Local farmers also win in this setup as they enjoy increased demand for their locally produced feedstocks that are used in the production of these biofuels.

TMP President and Tamaraw Class Racer Masando Hashimoto

“Using biofuels matters because first, it helps make our fuel supply more stable. If we can produce more of what we need locally, we are less affected by problems happening far away. Second, it supports our farmers. By using more coconut-based fuel, we create more demand for what they produce,” said TMP President Masando Hashimoto.

Racing for Team TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines are TMP President Masando Hashimoto, Justin “Buzzhype” Santos, Chenee Jimenez, Alex Lim aka BanaweBoy, Enzo Ison, and Will Lucas. Other events that happened during Race Weekend 2 include the GR50 challenge and car club fun runs.
